The Ventura College women's volleyball team (5-6) is nearly back to .500 after winning three of its last four matches.
"We're pulling together," said coach Mandy Rodriguez. "It took us a while to kind of find our way."
The Pirates are led by sophomores like Danielle Vaughn, who has moved to setter this year, right side Kilei Phipps, libero Justina Zenner, outside hitter Shalisa Young and defender Micheala Adame.
Former VC basketball players Randi Hicks and Rebecca Kolbeck have also joined the team as outside hitters.
"They're kind of battling it out right now," said Rodriguez. "But, come on, their basketball players, they've got great work ethic."
