After an odd September that saw it draw six of nine matches, the Moorpark College men's soccer team (1-3-6) earned its first win of the season Tuesday.
The Raiders scored twice in the final five minutes Tuesday to knock off second-place Los Angeles Mission, 4-3.
"It's such a personal game because a lot of my guys come from that area," Roche said. "You'd call it 'frantic' at that time. There was a cup-tie feeling about the thing. There had to be a winner."
Marvin Cartagenas' second goal gave the Raiders a late 3-2 lead. After Mission equalized, A.J. Felton followed with a solo goal in stoppage time.
"Last year, we would have lost those games," Moorpark coach Sean Roche said of the flurry of draws. "This year, we have two above-average goalkeepers. They have kept us in games.
Moorpark visits Santa Barbara City tonight before hosting cross-county rival Oxnard Tuesday.
