Steve Burkhart annually measures his Moorpark College women's volleyball team against the Orange County's best and Saturday night, against the Orange Empire Conference champion, is no different.
"When you can go and beat those teams," said Burkhart, "it's quite an accomplishment."
Looking for its first Great Eight berth since 2004, No. 4 Moorpark (20-2) hosts No. 5 Orange Coast (19-2) at Raider Pavilion at 7 p.m.
"Our girls are excited about the opportunity," said Burkhart.
Moorpark sophomores Una Siljegovic and Rachal Olinyk combined for 25 kills in the Raiders' three-game sweep of Mount San Antonio Tuesday, which also featured 42 assists by Olivia White and 13 digs and 12 digs, respectively, from Mimi Sander and Shakila Balkhi.
"We're coming off the match in which we probably played our best so far this season and we're expecting to play the same way (today)," said Burkhart. "That's just what we're going to do."
Orange Coast is a sophomore-laden team which has had success in five-game marathons, winning four of five.
"We've talked about trying to find a way to win three games," said Burkhart. "When it comes down to games that are close at the end, those are games that we're going to have to win somehow."
A win would propel the Raiders to the eight-team state tournament next week at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, the sight of three of Moorpark's four state tournament trips under Burkhart.
"It evokes that feeling again," said Burkhart. "What an exciting thing that is for the kids to be able to be there and be participating in that.
"I think those girls know that it's an experience they want."
