"Pink Zone" arrives Wednesday

Wednesday night's Ventura College basketball doubleheader against Los Angeles Pierce will include the VC women's annual "Pink Zone" event, part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's national fundraiser for breast cancer research, which includes more than 1,500 schools.

The event will include a silent auction, a bake sale to benefit "Ribbons of Life," a local breast cancer foundation, and cancer survivors as honorary starters.

"It's a night for awareness," Ventura assistant coach Robin Hester said.

The Ventura College women's soccer team will wear pink commemorative jerseys for Friday night's "Shirt Off Their Back" breast cancer awareness fundraiser.

VC is partnering with five local high schools and AYSO for the special night at the VC Sportsplex.

The Pirates (11-3) will auction their shirts off for charity following the 5:30 p.m. match with Central Valley Conferene-leading Fresno City (10-1-6).
