The Moorpark College women's volleyball team will host its annual "Dig Pink" night to raise funds and awareness for National Breast Cancer Month Tuesday at 7 p.m., when the WSC North co-leaders will host Hancock at Raider Pavilion.

The Raiders starting lineup includes libero Erika Smith, a sophomore from Newbury Park who overcame childhood leukemia.

The team's special "Dig Pink" t-shirts will be on sale. Funds raised will benefit the Sideout Foundation, originators of the national campaign.

Every goal scored during the month of October will have even more meaning for the Ventura College women's soccer team.

The Pirates are collecting pledges for every goal they score during their "Score for the Cure" breast cancer drive. Local high schools, including Buena, Ventura, Pacifica, Camarillo, Rio Mesa and St. Bonaventure High, are also participating in the program.

Ventura is also selling t-shirts with their "Score for the Cure" logo.

The month-long drive will culminate with the Nov. 2 home match against Oxnard College, when the Pirates will auction off their special pink jerseys. Other auction items will include shirts of international stars like Thierry Henry and Rafael Marquez.

All proceeds will go to the Community Memorial Hospital cancer center.
