Found this while cruising the news sites. It is from the Russian news media site called Russia Today. The station could be compared to that of CNN. Like everything that has to do with Russia, it seems to be a government sponsored station. So it was no surprise when I stumbled across this video, appropriately titled, "Revolution Is The Solution."

Obama Speaks To Russian President

Near the end of the Bush's term, U.S.-Russia relations were starting to sour. It mostly began over the missile defense shield that we wanted to put in Eastern Europe. Russia saw this as a threat to them because the missiles would be in their backyard. Then it got uglier after the war between Russia and Georgia over the South Ossetian region.

Luckily things have simmered. Today it was reported that Russian President Dmity Medvedev spoke with President Barack Obama. It was reported to be a fairly short conversation in which Medvedev wished Obama good luck.

It is great to see that both have started off on such good ground. Both Medvedev and Obama seem to be bright young men who can offer each of their countries a bright future. Now lets hope they can. As we can see, Bush and Putin started out to be good pals. It was a rocky relationship though at times and the same can happen with the current two leaders.

A New Cold War

Over the last few weeks, tensions around the world between the major power players has taken a new turn that has not been seen since the days of the Cold War. Russia originally went into Georgia on the pretext of defending South Ossetia. Since rolling into Georgia, easily defeating their army, and signing a peace deal, the world is getting hints of a restored Russian empire.

The situation in the region became even further complicated this week when Poland accepted a deal from the United States for the missile defense shield. Moscow shot back denouncing the deal and vowing a response that was not by diplomatic means.

Even though Russia has been talking tough the last several years, this seems to be the toughest stance it's taken in a while. Hopefully, this will soon fizzle over because if not, it can lead to a new age Cold War that could end worse than the original.

Now I do not want to pump any fear mongering, but the next few months of diplomacy need to be handled with extreme care. Any future escalation can result in unnescessary war.
