Excitement doubled for Lins

Moorpark High football coach Tim Lins has two reasons to be excited for the weekend.
His Musketeers open Marmonte League play against Thousand Oaks on Friday night, and on Saturday Lins is being inducted into the Cal Lutheran Athletics Hall of Fame.
Lins arrived at CLU from Cerritos College in 1980 as a tight end. During the 1981 and 1982 seasons, he caught 77 passes, scored 12 touchdowns and accumulated 974 yards to help CLU capture back-to-back NAIA District 3 Championships.
Lins was named to the NAIA All-America First Team both years and is one of only three two-time NAIA All-America First Team selections in CLU's history.
But here's betting the humble and modest Lins has never told his players about his outstanding college career. Bragging is not his specialty. But winning sure is - as a player and a coach.

Eisenbrand Gone For Season

There is never a good time to lose your top singles player, but there are worse times than others.

Sophomore Kristina Eisenbrand told Moorpark girls' tennis coach Sandy Jacobs she will not play the remainder of the season because she is attending a tennis academy in Spain.

Eisenbrand participated in Moorpark's loss to Rio Mesa yesterday - sweeping her sets in the process - and left today for Spain.

Moorpark's schedule this week includes matches against Marmonte League-leaders Westlake and Thousand Oaks. Today's match against Westlake was postponed, however, because of the rain and will be played on Monday.

"I thought we might have a chance against Westlake," Jacobs said. "But without Kristina, that is pretty much impossible. Her absence changes everything."

Now, Moorpark will likely battle Simi Valley for the final two automatic playoff spots in league.

"We should be able to get fourth place, especially since we do have that one win over Simi Valley already," Jacobs said. "Hopefully, we can squeak out fourth place. We have to see. You never know when one of your top girls gets sick or what is going to happen."

The Moorpark High football team will be dedicating Friday¹s game against
Ventura in memory of 1995 graduate Dr. Robert Floyd Bigley.

Bigley was a defensive lineman on the 1993 and 1994 Moorpark teams. The 1994
team won the Frontier League championship.

"Robby was instrumental in helping lay the foundation of our current program
and was a big part of winning the league title in 1993,"  said Moorpark
athletic director Rob Dearborn.

Bigley was killed Sunday in a in an elite skydiving training exercise. He
won two national titles last year in formation jumping. He had completed
more than 6,000 jumps.

He was married two weeks ago to Alana Marie Fulvio. His parents, Bob and
Elly, who still live in Moorpark, helped build the Moorpark stadium.
