Ventura College men's basketball assistant coach Jon Wyers has accepted the head boys' basketball position at Villanova Prep.
In two years in Ventura, Wyers has helped Ventura to 50 wins and a pair of Western State Conference titles.
Wyers said assistant coach Dan Placial will remain with the program. He has also spoken to former Ventura guard Andre Jamerson about a potential role with the Wildcats.
Wyers will remain at Ventura, which isn't without precedent. Oxnard College men's basketball assistant Jeff Perrault also coached at Thousand Oaks High last season.
Wyers lives in Ventura with his wife Tonya and stepson Bryan, 7.
Alex Tiffin had 24 points as the Thousand Oaks High boys' basketball team earned the CIF-SS Division II-AA title with a 59-55 win over Leuzinger Saturday afternoon at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
The teams were tied, 53-53, with two minutes to play when Antonio Lopez's steal and breakaway layup and Chris Carter's two free throws gave a four-point lead.
The Olympians (25-6) has a chance to tie the score in the final seconds when Thousand Oaks came up with a steal.
Leuzinger's top scorer, senior Jerry Evans, fouled out with little more than three minutes to play. He finished with 12 points
The Thousand Oaks High boys' basketball team trails Leuzinger 31-30 at the half in the CIF-SS Division II-AA final at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
Senior guard Antonio Lopez gave the Lancers a two-point lead with a late 3-pointer, before the Olympians responded in kind with a 30-footer.
The Lancers also trailed by one point at the end of the third quarter.
With such a big weekend approaching in both prep and local college sports, it's nice to see everybody working together.
The Thousand Oaks High and Ventura High boys' basketball team, who each contest CIF sectional finals Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, both found local college venues in which to prepare for the larger court this week.
The Lancers practiced at Cal Lutheran and the Cougars practiced at Ventura College.
"It's nice to have friends at the college," said Ventura assistant Felix Cortez.
All game second round.
