TimeOut: O.C.-based band Lit will play The Canyon Nov. 23

Trying to rekindle their former "Miserable" mojo, Lit will play tonight at The Canyon in Agoura Hills. It's safe to assume the Fullerton-based band will play a few off their first new album in eight years, "The View From the Bottom." Their bottom and our bottom might be complete strangers, as once upon a time Lit was a platinum-selling band, signed to RCA and touring with the likes of The Offspring, No Doubt and Garbage.

Before their flame-on moment, the band began behind the Orange Curtain as Razzle, which became Stain. They've been Lit since 1996 and homeowners since the new millennium. Their album "A Place in the Sun" went platinum -- a metal beloved by label suits -- fueled in no small part by the success of singles "Miserable" and "My Own Worst Enemy." An appearance by Pamela Anderson in the video for "Miserable" made it memorable.

TimeOut: 'The Voice' helped kickstart former 805 singer's career

Bluesy singer-harmonica player Lee Koch heard voices and they told him not to quit his night job, so he didn't, and now here he comes back to his favorite venue for a gig tonight at Zoey's in Ventura. Koch parlayed his 15 minutes of fame on NBC's music competition show "The Voice" into a tour across the country. In case you're unaware, "The Voice" is another of those endless, mindless and senseless competition shows that couch-bound Americans find so riveting.

Koch moved to the 805 from Temecula a few years back and released an album in 2009, "Same As Blood," that was produced by Jesse Siebenberg. Koch could often be heard sitting in with numerous local musicians or fronting his own band, the Grinders. Then, Koch moved back to the triple-digit heat and familiarity of Temecula where he intended to open a bakery with his wife, Nicole. Read more »

TimeOut: Roots rocker Shawn Jones ready for gigs in Ojai and Ventura

One would have to be a superhero -- Iron Man, maybe -- to keep up with one of the hardest-working musicians in the 805, Shawn Jones. Keeping up with the Jones is work. He's playing twice this weekend: at the Village Jester in Ojai tonight, and up all those stairs at the Watermark in Ventura on Sunday afternoon on dress-down day, when the dress code is not enforced and even a Raging Arb T-shirt will get you in.

Jones has a new album, out just last month, called "Struggle Makes You Stronger," which is not only truth in advertising, especially to a musician, but perhaps a chapter title right out of Rock Star 101. Jones is a gifted guitar player and with his tight band, cranks out plenty of bluesy rock. Read more »

TimeOut: The 'Time' is now for Imagine Dragons

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

A bad day in the Shire or business as usual at Hogwarts? Imagine Dragons are neither. Rather, this rock band is the Next Big Thing out of Las Vegas, and on Wednesday night they probably won't be doing any Wayne Newton songs when they perform at Velvet Jones in Santa Barbara.

These Dragons have a bio filled with the right stuff from the right people and the right gigs at the right time -- pretty much the Yellow Brick Road to Rock Star 101, following in the footsteps of their Vegas homies Panic at the Disco and the Killers. Read more »
