I spoke to seven of the Great Eight head coaches to compile my preview capsules.
The North's top seed, from Los Altos Hills, is Foothill.

No. 1 North
- Location: Los Altos Hills

- Head coach: Jody Craig (11th year)
- How it got here: Seeded No. 1 in regional, def. No. 16 Las Positas 86-56, def. No. 8 Shasta 73-64.

- Note: Lowe is eighth in the state in steals per game (3.56).
- Strengths: The combination of balance with Lowe, the type of go-to player who can win a tournament.
- Weaknesses: Inside scoring.
- Craig says: “We have a variety of things that we can throw at you, so we’re going to challenge teams.
- Scouts say: “They’re a clone of Mount SAC. They shuffle their athletes around to create confusion… They’re a tough out.
- Outlook: Perhaps the tournament dark horse. Foothill has dominated its schedule and had success against the three quarterfinalists its seen.
