VC men's hoops improves to 5-3

Danny Benson scored 21 points as the Ventura College men's basketball team improved to 5-3 with an 88-81 win over Compton College in the quarterfinals of the Condor Classic Friday afternoon at Oxnard College.

Santa Barbara City beat West Los Angeles, 85-76, in the first quarterfinal. So Ventura will play conference-rival Santa Barbara City 5 p.m. Saturday in the first semifinal.

Coach Ned Mircetic, attempting to win two games in two different cities in the same day, was pleased with the win:

"We have the capacity to be a good team. It's clear as day."
