The Ventura College women's basketball team toppled No. 1 Mount SAC, 65-42, Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the VC-Kiwanis Tournament of Champions.

The Ventura College men's basketball team shocked No. 4 San Bernardino Valley, 99-92, Sunday night in the championship game of the Condor Classic.

Coach Ned Mircetic summed it up:

"Today was a great day for VC basketball... We beat No. 4 and No. 1 and both of them were legit. It's not a fluke."

Mircetic got credit for coaching six wins over the weekend, despite being present for only four of the games.

"But who's counting?" said Mircetic, whose two teams are a combined 15-3 this season.

According to its coaches, the weekend for the Ventura men came together the moment the team eschewed driving separately to nearby Oxnard, instead saying "We'll drive as a team."

"We had a game plan and they executed it," said coach Will Cowen.

"If we keep playing like we are as a team and tough defensively, we can compete with anyone," said coach Jon Wyers.

For the men, Prince Abidoye had 18 points, six rebounds and five assists; Mike Diacos had seven points, five assists and three steals; Jordan Harris had 13 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks; and Dee Pinkard had 10 points, four rebounds and five assists.
