Ventura and Cuesta colleges have played their fair share of exciting men's basketball games and tonight's WSC North opener figures to be yet another one.

No. 14 Ventura (15-5) and Cuesta (15-7), ranked No. 11 in Southern California, bring in the best non-conference records in the division.

Cuesta features the WSC North's top returner in 6-foot-8 Panamanian forward Joe Ayarza, who is averaging 18.9 points and 7.6 rebounds. The Cougars have also added the duo from Dudelange, Luxembourg -- hotshot guard Tom Schumacher, who has 76 3-pointers, and tough 6-foot-7 forward Frank Muller -- and Swedish 6-foot-9 center Petter Wenehult.

It's safe to say Ventura coach Ned Mircetic was impressed by the film he scouted.

"They have a big, post player who's a brute. They have a big, post player who is finesse. They have a shooting guard who makes more 3s than our whole team."

"They could cause us a lot of grief."
