Hancock's win over the Ventura College men's basketball team was the Bulldogs first win over Ventura in nine years -- since Feb. 8, 2000, which was Greg Winslow's first trip to Santa Maria as VC head coach.

The Pirates had beaten Hancock 16 straight games.

Isaiah Thomas had 27 points for Ventura and Desmond Penigar added 21 points and 10 rebounds in that 70-64 loss to Hancock. Ventura had a chance to cut the deficit to two points with 24 seconds to go but missed a layup.

It was also Hancock's second on-court win over Ventura in 20 years.

The Pirates previous loss on the court to the Santa Maria school was 107-95 in the Los Angeles Valley tournament during the 1989-90 season. Hancock was not in the WSC from 1988-89 to 1993-94.

Very interesting stat. Looks like the race is tightening up. Should be interesting down the stretch.
