Larry Baratte won't know if his Ventura College men's swimming team will be the favorite in this weekend's California Community College championships until today.
But it looks pretty close.
The Pirates look like they qualified a school-record 15 men and five women for the three-day meet at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut.
"I don't know for sure," said Baratte Sunday. "I'll know when I see the psych sheets.
"We'll see. I think we're in the conversation."
Nine men were unshaven when the Pirates won the WSC Championship Saturday by a record margin in Santa Claritate.
"I think that's pretty big," said Baratte. "That's a pretty good thing."
