The third round of the WSC North basketball campaign arrives tonight at 5 p.m. I'll be at the Ventura College Athletic Event Center, but we'll be updating as many scores as we can find here on Twitter. The VC-MC doubleheader will be broadcast on KKZZ 1400 AM and HomefieldSports.com.
Men's schedule, 5 p.m.
Ventura 78, Moorpark 68 FINAL On a night when the teams' stars James Ennis, Coltrane Powdrill and Jamal McClerkin combined to go 72 minutes without scoring their first points, the Pirates' frontline of Mike Melonas and Chicagoan freshmen Deon Garrett and Corey Hall combined for 39 points. Powdrill led Moorpark with 24 points, all coming in the final 15 minutes.
Oxnard 94, Cuesta 82 FINAL The Condors move into sole possession of first place behind 32 points (and 7 3s) by Marcus Falley. With just its second win at SLO in eight rips, Oxnard held Cuesta star Malte Kramer to 13 points
Santa Barbara City 66, Los Angeles Pierce 56 FINAL
Women's schedule, 7 p.m.
Ventura 68, Moorpark 45 FINAL Destinee LaFountain had 19 points nad 25 rebounds. LaFountain's 25 rebounds -- 12 offense and 13 defensive -- were the most pulled down by a Pirates' player in coach Ned Mircetic's 21-year tenure. The figure is second best figure in school history behind a 29-board night by Chris Royer in 1990. Ja'Lisa Gatlin had 18 points and nine rebounds and Rebecca Griffin added 10 points for Ventura (14-6, 3-0), which led its cross-county rival 25-20 at the half. Moorpark was led by 19 points from Ashley Samson.
Cuesta 66, Oxnard 61 FINAL Condors holding Cougars to 13-of-44 shooting in the opening 20 minutes.
Santa Barbara City 76, Los Angeles Pierce 71 FINAL
