By winning 13 of its last 14 games in conference play, the Ventura College softball team (21-14, 13-4) has seemingly done the impossible, put pressure on first-place Santa Barbara City (28-5, 13-2) during its historic run.
Its only loss in WSC Gold play since March 15 came in a doubleheader split with Santa Barbara April 7.
Spurred by sophomore pitcher Kailey Snyder (24-4), Santa Barbara can wrap up its first WSC title by winning two of its last three games against sixth-place Hancock and seventh-place Los Angeles Pierce.
But Ventura has positioned itself for the postseason with the pitching tandem of freshman Teresa Lemos (13-7), who actually leads the WSC Gold in ERA at 0.79, and teammate Janessa Pulido (8-6), who is third at 1.60.
