His current quarterback rotation reminded Ventura College coach Steve Mooshagian of his days as offensive coordinator at Nevada. In 1996, the Wolfpack started 3-2 by rotating both Texas transfer John Dutton and junior Eric Bennett at the position.

"It ended up being a really good thing for us," said Mooshagian.

Local fans will remember Bennett as the last quarterback to lead Simi Valley High into the postseason.

Dutton, who has played 11 years in Arena football, eventually won the job and guided Nevada to the Big West title. But Bennett, who threw 12 touchdowns and just five interceptions that season, came off the bench to guide the team to a win in the Las Vegas Bowl.

"I'm going to see who has the hot hand, who's leading the team," said Mooshagian. "It's a good problem to have."
