Double champs on tennis court

The Ventura College tennis teams become double champs for the first time since 2007 Tuesday, when the teams both clinches Western State Conference titles.

The VC men (15-4, 9-0) topped Los Angeles Pierce, 5-4, to extend its WSC-title streak to seven seasons. Tyler Sperry and Nick Bezzubchenko earning the decisive set at No. 1 doubles.

The VC women (15-0, 8-0), ranked No. 1 in Southern California, clinched its first title in style, sweeping all five singles matches to knock off defending champion Santa Monica, 8-1. Julianna Bacelar, Jessica Worring, Sonia Landeros, Layne Gallimore and Carolyn Morris, VC's Top 5 singles players in order, all improved to 7-0 in WSC singles play.
