The Moorpark College men's volleyball team (7-3) flashed its credentials Wednesday by knocking off No. 1-ranked Long Beach City in four games at Raider Pavilion.

"That is a very big win," said Moorpark coach Steve Burkhart. "It's the first time we've beaten that team since we started with the men."

Long Beach (8-1) had swept its previous six straight matches and had only dropped two games all season.

"They are a very aggressive hitting and serving team," said Burkhart. "We knew that if we could hang in there a little bit, maybe they'd start to doubt themselves."

After dropping the first game, Moorpark rebounded to sweep the final three.

"All of a sudden we started to believe," said Burkhart. "Our defense really played great."
