Hey,

Here is an interesting story from the blog dailykos.com

Bush losing his party on SS

The media spin has been that Bush's social security road show is designed to pressure Democrats into supporting privatization. Josh Marshall has been making the point the last few weeks that such efforts seem designed, actually, to pressure Republicans to back his plan.

More evidence: The DCCC notes that while Bush is in Michigan today selling his scheme, nearly half of the state's GOP congressional delegation (4 of 9) opposes the president's plan, alongside a growing list of House Republicans.

Pulling Democrats in line is the least of Bush's problems right now.

House Republicans must face the voters every two years, and it's notable that some of the least secure are vocally opposing privatization, like NM's Heather Wilson, AL's Mike Rogers, CTs Rob Simmons, and AZ's Rick Renzi (people we'll be running hard against next year). Cruella herself, gearing up for a senate run in senior-rich Florida, opposes the plan.

In fact, Republicans up for reelection next year must be wondering just what, exactly, Bush and Rove must be thinking. They've launched an all-out assault on social security while making 2/3rds of their budget cuts in education. That's not the sort of thing Republicans want to be explaining to their constituents in a year.

If Democrats can't turn that into electoral gold, then we deserve to be consigned to the dustbin of history.

As I read this I wondered how Elton Gallegly or Lois Capps is going to vote. We can assume, but instead we should find out. Anyone hear anything about this?
Any idea where our local officials stand on this issue?
