Local Ballots

I know the state has an initiative process but how does it work on a local (Simi Valley) or county level?

What are the rules and regulations? How many signatures are needed? Are there web sites for this at the local level? How many days before the election must papers be pulled? Who writes and approves the language of the proposal?

You are likely asking what I am up to. Well, I was thinking of some direct democracy and street naming. Maybe we could rename or name some streets in honor of our military members. Something like Patriots Blvd. It could be done by the council on behalf of voters, but I think it would mean more coming directly from voters.

Part of my inspiration is Victory Blvd. in the other valley which is named after victory in WW I. And of course one of me heroes General Sherman (Way).

If anyone knows can you post some links here. And if you have naming ideas also post them here.

We could name after mayors so that we remember the past. Elton Gallegly Ave. Greg Stratton Park Way etc.

Or after former Presidents.

Ronald Reagan Court. Bill Clinton St. Or Honest Abe Ave.

Thanks,

Staying focused on the big issues, huh? Is transportation system identification the issue that calls for the will of the people to be invoked? Elected officials too corrupt or entrenched and controlled by moneyed (ill-gotten, I bet) interests to provide culturally appropriate signage getting you down? Has the Simi so got it together that maybe there isn't even a need for an initiative system because all that can be mustered up is a prescriptive street naming ordinance?

What about local campaign finance reform? That way you can finally get the true voice of "The People" heard and the elected officials will be forced to be representative to voters and name some damn streets.

Good luck with the Initiative. If it works I want to rename my street "Go Way".
