I just received the following e-mail. Here it is word for word...
Mary Pallant for Congress
Turning the 24th Blue!
Mary's Vision:
I want my daughters to grow up in an America they can be proud of. An America that is a leader in the world and a protector of the liberties that we often take for granted and that others in the world would die to have. I have come to realize, that to be silent in the governing of our republic is too great a risk, and what we risk does not just threaten us, but makes the world more difficult and treacherous for our children and others who will come long after we are gone.
We have a responsibility to secure the legacy of a strong and free America, just as those who came before us did. This is why I am running for Congress....But a leader must also go in with a plan and with priorities. I am running for Congress to:
End the War in Iraq
Restore fiscal responsibility to the Federal Government
Protect Social Security

Thanks Brian for posting my recent newsletter. Things are moving forward with the campaign and we are generating much excitement. I will be happy to comment on questions and if anyone would like to have me attend their organization or club to introduce myself, it will be my pleasure.
Onward!
Mary Pallant
Congressional Candidate, CA-24
Mary,
How are you going to balance the federal budget?
Scott
Mary,
I applaud your efforts to speak up for what you believe in, and your wilingness to get in the arena to speak out. We may disagree on many things, but I always commend people for trying to help their country.
You say you want to restore fiscal discipline to the Federal Government. I think that's great! Specifically, what spending authorizations would you have voted against and why, and what spending bills would you have preferred the President to veto? Are there government programs that seem antiquated to you where that money could be better allocated to other areas?
Also, as we saw in the 90's and are beginning to see again, a robust and growing economy can do much in increasing the flow of tax dollars to the treasury. What are your plans as a member of congress to advocate for economic growth?
I look forward to your responses.
Sincerely,
Tim Keaney
To Tim and Scott who inquired about the federal deficit I would do two things:
1. Rescind Bush's tax cuts.
2. Support a bi-partisan summit for balancing the budget and cutting the pork.
In reference to economic growth, I would support legislation that would benefit small businesses.
Best,
Mary Pallant
Not really Brian - With all due respect to Mary, these are issues I'd be more likely to hear on MSNBC, than on the floor of Congress.
This is a job that allows the elected to actually introduce legislation - laws that would be enacted if passed.
I am hoiping that Mary has at least thought about some specific legislation she'd like to introduce.
But it did generate more questions:
Can you define specific pork in the budget you'd have voted against?
Your interested in eliminating the tax cuts, even through the economy is smoking, 95% of Americans are working and tax dollar FLOW is at an all time high. Why fix with taxes what could be fixed with eliminating the pork?
I would also welcome your (Mary's) thoughts on why Congressman Gallegly should be replaced.
I sincerely appreciate your efforts and time in answering these important questions.
Tim Keaney
Tim,
I think repealing tax cuts is pretty specific, no?
So, if the economic policy of the president is to account for the economy now, was that the same case when Bill Clinton was throwing up historic numbers?
Of all the issues, I would say Elton Gallegly should be replaced if he doesn't do a better job holding down the corruption in the house.
I believe he voted to ease the ethics rules to allow Tom Delay to keep his job, and later voted to change them back.
Tom Delay, Randy Cunningham, and several more are going down for corruption. Some of them diverted funds away from our troops on purpose in a time of war. We need someone who will look into this, not turn the other way.
If Democrats take over the house and are just as corrupt, I will agree they should be voted out, like they were in 1994.
Brian
Brian,
Thanks for your comments, but I am looking for the answers From Mary. And no, "reverse the tax cuts" isn't really all that specific.
Tim
Tim,
I know cutting taxes is not spending, but it does impact the budget, yes? If so, how is repealing the tax cuts not specific?
Brian
Brian,
How about which specific tax cuts? Is she interested about eliminating the AMT? IS this debate just going to be between us?
Any spending cuts she's interested in?
I am looking for specifics Brian, not talking points.
Tim
Am I upsetting you Brian? You seem to be working awfully hard to come up for specifics for someone else who is in the campaign. Aren't you just the middleman at this point, or does Mary have your endorsement?
If the AMT (ATM is a banking device, maybe you've seen one) isn't part of the discussion, I would like to know why not? It's about to ensnare many a middle class voter, but Mary (and you) seem to be very focused on these "Bush tax cuts" which have indeed increased federal revenues, while lowering rates (increased revenue is where revenues to the treasury actually increase) even though tax rates are lower.
If what you are telling me is that Mary is concerned about these "tax cuts" and has no plan or will to cut spending (or at least identify 5 things that could or should be cut) then this campaign is over b4 it began.
But again, I don't quite know why you are doing the answering for her.
Tim
