38th Assembly District Just got interesting...

The 38th Assembly District ( to replace the termed out Dr. Keith Richman) just got interesting. Read this Jim Alger's website and tell me what stands out.

Coming to Simi Valley soon...

Moorpark is looking into dividing their city council into districts.

Read the article and then comment on what you see as the benefits and drawbacks.

Will it happen in Simi Valley? Does it need to happen? What do other cities of the size that city leaders plan on growing to do?

The hat is thrown in...

What is going on? Leave your thoughts. ( And yes, the title was made to be over the top).

Elton Gallegly and the media

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

It appears Elton Gallegly is upset The Star is investigating his possilble ties to Jack Abramoff
( plead guilty to bribing several members of congress and other felonies).

The Star is claiming Elton Gallegly won't even talk tot hem or return their phone calls now.

The strangest part of the story?

This line from the editor of The Star:

...Gallegly was too honest and honorable...

So, to recap:

1. The Star believes Elton Gallegly is honest and honorable.
2. Elton Gallegly won't talk to them.

If you think they should patch things up leave a comment.

Boeing takes a hit

There is a complicated and important story in the extended comments about Rocketdyne in Simi Valley.

In the last few weeks they have paid millions to people of the area that they have made ill.

Now, they have are asking to continue to pollute for just a few more months.

If this toxic brew every ends up becoming a massive scandal costing the local areas millions of dollars and unmeasureable human suffering...

Can we please vote out every politician from the top to the bottom for ignoring this issue?

Funny quote of the week...

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

This one made me laugh...

Several of Simi Valley's selling points are its proximity to traditional tourist lures, such as Hollywood, Disneyland and the beach.

If any tourist plans to stay in Simi Valley because it is close to Disneyland, I feel sorry for them.

There is plenty to be proud of in Simi Valley, but the mall as a tourist destination? I like the mall. But I wouldn't drive an hour to visit it. Would you?

They meet again...

The Democratic women's council of the Conejo Valley is hosting a forum for the Democrats battling to take on Elton Gallegly. Too bad most Republican candidates around here won't even debate each other.

The event looks fun. I wonder if the number one political blog in Ventura County gets comp'ed tickets?

Go here for more information.

Can we get a dog park?

Rumors 3.0

Another Republican from the conservative wing of the party is planning on running for the nomination of the 38th assembly district. They likely have the support of the California Republican Party and other conservative groups.

Rumors (part 2)

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

I haven't had this rumor confirmed yet, but looks like the city races might not be so boring after all. There is another potential candidate thinking of running.

Want a clue?

Rumors...( Part 1)

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

The 24th congressional district race is about to be changed around. Rumor has it that Brett Wagner might run for county supervisor in Santa Barbara. Can anyone shoot down or vouch for this rumor?

In addition, up to two new candidates will be joining the race for congress.

Glen Becerra protecting our rights

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

The city council under Glen Becerra is about to protect our fifth amendment rights against taking of property.

This follows a US Supreme Court ruling which places large developers, corporations, and tax hungry cities ahead of individuals.

What do you think? ( By the way this will only protect homes, not commercial, industrial, or other property). Is this a step in the right direction?

Smoking at the mall

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Several readers of this blog have been upset about the fact that the local mall doesn't think we are a classy city.

The local mall allows smoking, but some of their upscale malls do not.

Anyways, it looks like one reader will be talking to the city council about this issue. If you are interested, read on.

The Field Lab

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Issues like this are complicated, but the Boeing company has settled for millions of dollars for getting people in Simi Valley sick.

By settling, are they admitting guilt? I am not sure.

But, I do know that the court has ruled that field lab has been giving people cancer.

So, dear readers, why hasn't any politician from Simi Valley ever made this an issue?

Interesting Pallant article

Mary Pallant is running for the chance to take on Elton Gallegly. Here is an article about the her in The Star.

The other candidates in this crowded primary are the Rev. Jill Martinez and Brett Wagner.

There are several interesting quotes in the article. Which quotes stand out the most to you?

How'd the debate go?

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

I didn't make the debate between the three candidates running for the chance to take on Elton Gallegly.

Does anyone have a report of how it went? I haven't heard much from Brett Wagner lately. Were any of the charges addressed?

Mary Pallant on the move!

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

I recieved a fundraising letter from Mary Pallant today. Basic stuff really, but the part that stood out the most is this line...

...Including funds from Tom Delay, I believe the recent scandals and indictments have made him extremely vulnerable...

I haven't seen this anywhere. Can Mary Pallant back it up? Is she just hoping?

Team Pallant, if it is true, prove it and leave the evidence in the comments section. And if he has, what does that prove anyway? If Tom Delay wants to give away money, shouldn't anybody take it?

A real Dantona Campaign Update

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

For the record, I post them as I get them. I haven't posted much from Mikels, because I haven't gotten much. If you have a press release or update from her, e-mail it to briandennert@yahoo.com . Same goes for other candidates ( Like Ferial Masry, who sends me everything they do!)

Word for word from the press release:

Retired Senator Wright Endorses
Jim Dantona for County Supervisor
Jim Dantona, candidate for County Supervisor for the 4th Supervisorial District, continues to build on the strong endorsements of an impressive bi-partisan coalition of State and local elected officials by adding Republican and former State and local representative Cathie Wright to his endorsement list. Wright served the constituents of Ventura County for twenty-two years as Simi Valley Mayor & Council Member, California State Assembly Member, and California State Senator.

"Dantona is a fighter,? states Wright, "and he is persistent in fighting for what he believes. He has always fought for children with organizations like Baseballers Against Drugs, and he will continue to fight against partisanship and fight for the constituents of the 4th District.?

Jim Dantona is a 23-year resident of Simi Valley, Founder and Chair of Baseballers Against Drugs, 30-year veteran of local, state and national government action, and recipient of the FBI Director's Community Leadership Award for the prevention of drug abuse. The 4th Supervisorial District includes the cities of Simi Valley and Moorpark and the unincorporated communities of Bell and Box Canyons, Somis and the Santa Susanna Knolls.

"Cathie Wright was always a strong and determined leader for our community,? Dantona said. "She has always had my respect and I am truly honored to have earned her endorsement.?

Cathie Wright is a multiple award recipient herself, including, among others, the Hunger Fighter Award from the California Hunger Action Coalition while serving in the State Assembly. A California Conservation Corps library in Simi Valley and California Department of Mental Health Technical Assistance Center in Sacramento were also named in her honor.

Wright is the latest to join a growing list of Republican and Democratic elected officials to back Dantona, including current Assembly member Audra Strickland and former Assemblyman Tony Strickland; current Simi Valley Mayor Pro-Tem Barbra Williamson and former Mayor Bill Davis; current Moorpark Mayor Patrick Hunter and former Mayor John Lane; Rancho Simi Valley Park and Recreation Board Members Veteran Simi Valley Police Detective Gene Hostetler and Jim Meredith; Simi Valley Board of Education President Janice DiFatta and Board Members Debbie Sandland and Rob Collins; Moorpark City Councilwoman Roseann Mikos, Camarillo Vice-Mayor Michael Morgan, Oxnard City Councilman Tim Flynn, Channel Islands Beach Community Service Director Jonathan Ziv, and former Ventura Mayor and Founder of SOAR Richard Francis.

Freeways, dams, schools and more!

The governor is planning a huge bond measure to pay for a massive new phase of infrastructure improvements across the state.

My question is pretty simple. If millions ( or billions) of dollars were going to be spent around Ventura County what would be on your wish list?

I would vote to expand the 23. Also, a world class bike route connecting the entire city. And maybe most importantly, rain awnings at the new Simi Valley Town Center. At the current rate one El Nino year will shut down the mall for months!

So, what would be on your wish list?

Dantona Campaign Update

Here is an update from the Jim Dantona Campaign.

Word for word from the Press Release:

A Full-Time Supervisor for a Change
Happy New Year to all of you! Our New Year’s resolution here is clear and simple – VICTORY on June 6, 2006. Momentum is building, endorsements are growing, and financing is strong.
If you have been following the campaign closely, then you know how active we were in 2005. Whether walking or touring communities, meeting and greeting voters and community leaders, we have introduced Simi Valley, Moorpark, Somis, Santa Susana Knolls, Box Canyon, Woolsey Canyon, Lilac Lane and Chatsworth Lake Manor to my campaign and the response has been outstanding.
Thanks to so many of you, early fundraising has been very successful and that is key. My opponent supported legislation that put tough restrictions on contributions for the County Supervisor race. Then she went around the intent of the law by collecting large-scale contributions from special interests in the days immediately preceding the enforcement of the very legislation she claimed to support. But with your continued help, even this deceitful act will be overcome.
I have found staunch allies from both sides of the political aisle all throughout Ventura County. I am proud of the confidence shown in me by seventeen current and former local, county and statewide elected officials who have already endorsed my candidacy.
The continued financial help, volunteer efforts, and bi-partisan support have emboldened me as we make our way door-to-door through Simi Valley for the next several weeks. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and as always, I welcome your feedback and your support in the days leading up to VICTORY on June 6th.

And as always a link to the Ferial Masry Campaign as they were the first campaign to link to this site, and therefore won the contest.

Not a politician?

Check this headline from The Star today:

Politician seeks city's fiscal health

and compare it to the quote from the same article:

"I don't consider myself a politician. I am serving my community," ( Council Member Foster)

Michelle Foster is a politician, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Serving our community as a politician is an honorable way to give back.

Politicians are for the most part hard working, caring, patriots. And that goes for both parties. So, Michelle Foster, why not embrace the title? Politicians do good work for our community, and this article list some nice things you have done. Be loud! Be Proud! Be a politician with pride!

The Rev. Jill Martinez declared against Elton Gallegly today. This makes it three Democrats fighting for the chance to take all the Republican incumbent.

The debate between the three ( Brett Wagner, Mary Pallant, and Jill Martinez) will be Thursday night.

The debate I am looking for next season is between Ferial Masry and Audra Strickland.
