Audra and The Republican Party

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

I hear Audra Strickland now has a Republican taking her on in the primary this June.

This must be good news for the Democrat Ferial Masry.

But really, what is the big reason for a Republican to take on one of their own in a sure to be bloody primary? Will it be an attack from the left or the right?

Thoughts?

Update: It appears the attack on Audra will be coming from a more moderate member of The Republican Party. Bob Larkin has pulled the papers and will be hosting a press conference on Thursday is what I have been told.

Bob Larkin and The Stricklands have some bad blood between them.

Bob, if you want to write a guest blog here let me know. You could be the first Ventura County candidate to announce a big time race via the web. Let all of the readers know what you should be given the chance to take on Ferial Masry and serve in the state assembly. You could explain why Audra Strickland needs to go and you could answer questions from readers. Let me know what you think.

By the way, I don't reveal sources, so feel free to post.

Brian,

I noticed when you linked to Ferial's website, you linked right to her campaign site, but when you linked to Audra Strickland, you linked to "conservativeflake", the anti Strickland blog.

What's up with that?

Tim Keaney

Tim,

Good question. Actually a few things.

1. Ferial linked to this site. I like that.
2. I don't see an official CAMPAIGN website for Audra.
3. The entry was about an attack on Audra, so I tried to find an example of a Republican group that might be the source of the attack.

I think that makes sense, no?

But, if you are hinting I would like to see Ferial Masry elected, you are correct.

It is not so much an anti-Audra thing, but I think it could send a message to the world about American values. She has an amazing life story.

In addition, I know her son. He served in Iraq and I think he is a great guy with a future in politics if he is interested.

I appreciate all of that Brian, but it does clearly imply that you are hyping Ferial's campaign, while dissing her opponent. Simply linking to Audra's Assembly web site would have served to make the entry a tad more balanced - but that doesn't seem to have been the intent anyway.

I heard from one of my posters that posts like this might have to be listed as in-kind donations for their campaigns.

Tim

Brian,
I still want to know if Tony and Audra are investors in Vista Real Charter. We know Tony is on their Board and did extensive lobbying for Vista Real. If they are making money, and Audra is voting for Education funding, isn't that a conflict of interest? I know Glen Becerra, to his credit, abstains from voting on checks to his employer SoCal Edison. In terms of blogs and reporting the FPPC is still looking into it.

If the Stricklands have a financial interest in anything that she as an elected official is voting on, it's a conflict of interest. Just like any other elected official.

Tim

Brian, Tim,
How would we find out?

UM, pull their conflict of interest filings?

Tim,

I hate linking to incumbents GOVERNMENT websites. This lets them not engage in a campaign and use government resources to project an aura of power.

It also robs local web companies ( like assistingu.com ) of the chance to make their websites. If she makes or has a campaign website I will link to it.

I stick to the point though. The entry was about REPUBLICANS being upset with Audra, so a link to a REPUBLICAN website that is upset with her makes sense.

There is no law against a blog, talk show, or newspaper from discussing politics and their views.

Otherwise a paper could not endorse candidates, talk shows would be pretty boring, and Fox News would be shut down.

The RNC tried to get local radio station KFI and their hosts Jon and Ken to stop attacking David Drier. The complaint was dropped bt the FEC.

So, all that said, I support Ferial Masry and will continue to link to her every chance I get.

Tim,

Do you have a website or url for the disclosure forms?

Why would someone run against Mrs. Strickland?

Brian,

If you had wanted to talk about republicans not backing Audra, you would have been fine if you had JUSt talked about that, and posted the negative web site. Instead, you turned her misfortune within her own party into a Masry commercial.

You at least need to post at the end "paid for by Masry for Assembly"

Tim

Brian,
Why is Tim so beholden to the Stricklands?

Arleigh,

Why are you so beholden to not debating educational issues? You've been awfully quiet on what would seem to matter the most to an educational leader.

Tim

Tim - stop whining. Dennert could post here, or talk about Masry on a street corner. That doesn't mean her campaign paid for anything.

And what does it mean that he's "so beholden to not debating educational issues?" He doesn't debate the Yankees either. If I gave a shit, I could take my blog viewing time somewhere else.

I think Bob Larkin is a loser, both personally and politically. This is just a get even candidacy. Larkin has done nothing for the Republicans or the Community. What a Joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is a RINO.

Matt,

Thanks for your contribution to the intellectual discourse. Your use of the "s" word is like an artist at his canvass.

Bravo!

Tim Keaney

Brian,
A RINO is anyone who does not hold extremist views like Elaine M. and who does not worship Dick Cheney and Pat Robertson, or who does not support Dubai taking over our ports, or anyone who would question Bush if he decided to sell control of our nuclear power plants to North Korea. Matt, you should post more often. Tim, there is not much point trying to debate on your blog when everyone seems to have their minds closed. Where is the debate at that point?

My blog can't be bought. But it can be rented...

Although I'd never take a dime from Ferial. I am not knocking Audra but I'd prefer Ferial Masry to show the world what America is about.

Tim, do you have a link to the disclosure forms?

Brian,
We do need to see the conflict of interest report to look further into Vista Real and to follow the money trail. Another Charter School that was rejected by Ventura Unified is going before the County Board. I predict they will okay it on a 4-1 vote and once again they will take away local control from a local school district and from local voters. I think it is time for big changes on the Ventura County School Board. We need local control back!

It looks like Bob Larkin backed off after the Stricklands pledged to be good Republicans and only endorse Republicans.
