Jim Alger has a new press release. He needs $20,000 grand pronto. Click on " Continue reading" for more details.
Also, a reader informed me Smyth, is not pronounced Smith, but rather Smy-th.
Thanks for the tip.
It has been a long year hasn't it?
When we started this campaign nearly a year ago we knew that it was going to be a tough fight. Now in the final weeks of the Primary campaign, as if on cue, I have come under attack with one wave ending just as the next one begins. These attacks emanate from desperation and are of course designed to deter, demean and deflect the real issues that matter.
As expected, the monied special interests have poured resources into defeating our message of local control over land use, ending our dependence on urban landfills, stronger education standards, defending freedom of choice, and achieving universal healthcare for all Californians.
I need your help to defend all of us in Sacramento. As you know, I have not accepted any special interest money. I believe strongly that the people are the ultimate special interest group and the only ones I answer to. While this is the most difficult part of running a campaign, I am asking for your financial support.
We need to raise about 20K to fight off these attacks, keep the focus on our message of California's future and bring us safely through the primary. Whatever you can donate will help.
Please take a moment to visit http://www.votealger.com/donateindex.html and make a contribution. You may use a credit card or a checking account through our secure servers.
Thank you for your continued support and don't worry, together we can do it!

I would donate to Jim Alger if he displayed a creative plan to win or a logical arguement on how he plans on taking out a Republican in a gerry-mandered district.
Does Jim need the cash for his campaign or to pay off the creditors from his recent bankruptcy?
Slippery-
The incumbent is termed out, so this is an open seat. It's true that this is supposedly a safe-GOP seat, but there are a number of things going our way here:
- The likely GOP nominee is much less moderate than Richman, and is far too conservative for the district
- Demographic shift, as well as several constituencies (notably the Jewish community) that Richman appealed to and will likely flip to a strong Dem candidate
- Jim's running an honest-to-goodness campaign, and has been for months, putting down roots and picking up activists in each of the 3 valleys (including in Simi, picking up Jodell Haws' endorsement), and garnering more publicity than any Dem candidate has gotten in the 38th in recent memory
Now, we sort of had to change gears since the primary has become a bit of a dogfight (ask "Jim's Creditors" -- I thought you guys were going to try and show some class, eh?), but a major argument for Alger over Smyth in the general is that Smyth is going to go to Sacto as a partisan bomb-thrower, while Alger will be able to get more of the services we pay for back into the district.
Alger's gotten more done (and not by toeing the party line) as a Neighborhood Council president than Cameron ever did as Mayor, and he'll spend his time serving the residents of the 38th rather than preparing some future Congressional run. I don't know what Smyth hopes to accomplish, other than contributing in his small way to the continued legislative gridlock in the assembly, but Jim's got a compelling platform and record of accomplishments to run on that we've been communicating to voters already for months districtwide.
I'm on staff (if you couldn't tell), and I'd encourage you to hit the campaign email (mail@votealger.com) if you have other questions about the campaign.
cheers

I have seen Jim Alger all over the place. His ideas for the district, and the fact that Smyth is a right wing-nut may just put him over the top IF we support him early.
My $200.00 Check is on it's way Jim, sorry that is all I can afford.
