Judy Mikels sent out a mail piece that alleges Jim Dantona is acutally the tool of corporate interests like Waste Management. It even used the classic one candidate in color, one in black and white tool. Why is Judy Mikels insensitive to color blind voters? Why does she mock them?
Earlier this week, I recieved a mail piece that said it was Judy Mikels that was the tool of Waste Management. It showed pictures of trash trucks driving into Simi Valley. I liked the background. It was the same neighborhood he used for the sprawl mailer but with green unmarked trucks. I wonder what trucks they were suppossed to be? I think between the two candidates they have made Waste Management and a possilble expansion a top issue. So, who is the tool of Waste Management? Are they just stuck in an election year crossfire? If anyone from WM wants to bring me up for a tour, send me an e-mail. If you let me drive a huge crane or something cool I promise just to write nice things.
I also read The Star story today that said: She ( Mikels) spent $15,000 for polling and he (Foy) spent $10,445 for polling. Anyone have access to these or other polls? If so, I'd love to see them. I always think it is funny when politicians use polls and then run away from them. They all use polls, nothing wrong with that.
I recieved a Jim Dantona mail piece from his ex-wife. It was great. His ex goes on and on about what a great guy he is and how supportive he has always been. There was also a great shot of him and his kids on the front. This tactic seems pretty effective to me. What do you think?
I haven't recieved anything at all from Peter Foy. In the past I have heard of campaigns sending someone down to the post office to go through junk mail by the trash cans to see what other campaigns are sending out. More effective would be just e-mailing me the text of a mailer.
If your campaign has a mailer going out send me the text and a photo. I will post the whole thing for you. But I am not converitng from .pdf file. If you got a campaign piece you want me to post so that it can be discussed feel free to type it up and e-mail it to me.
Have fun with all the mailers in the next few weeks.
Dennis Hastert ( R-Toast) is now under investigation for corruption. I guess a good question for Gallegly or Tenenbaum would be if they'd vote for Hastert for minority leader if there was an ongoing investigation.
Too bad there won't be any debates. Or will there?

Is it just me, or does it seem like Jim Dantona is actually running against Waste Management? I also got a robo call from The Jim Alger campaign talking about the possilble dump expansion.
Anyways, I attended a press conference for Jim Dantona last Thursday night at the gates of the Simi Valley landfill. Jim Dantona wants to inspire WM to donate land to create a world class soccer complex for all the local clubs and teams. Something along the lines of what Lancaster has built. Kind of sad we are second to Lancaster, but I digress.
Jim's plan would have WM donating the land, and the park district building the thing. The land would be a portion of the area that has been discussed or not discussed ( depending who you believe) as part of a potential expansion.
If WM does not go along with the plan, Jim Dantona said he will use any means needed including a ballot proposition to hold off any expansion.
The press conference was attended by The Daily News but The Star did not send a reporter. There was JIm, Barbra, Gene, and many soccer parents including the mythical "soccer moms".

Side note, if someone posts pretending to be you, let me know by e-mailing me and I will see what I can do. It is my belief that people should be able to discuss politics under pen names like the Founding Fathers did in things like the Federalist Papers. For that reason, I don't reveal identities, as long as you play by the rules. But if you play dirty tricks like posting under other peoples' names, all bets are off.
To all the loyal posters like Bubba and GS thanks for helping to make democracy work.

The Tenenbaum Team has sent out a press release that accusses Team Elton of negative attacks, intimidation, threats, and tearing down their signs. They even mention specific members of Gallegly's staff.
Why won't local papers cover this race?
Click on continue reading for the whole press release.
UPDATED: Two new press releases. One on Tenenbaum speaking at a local high school and one on Tenenbaum and his FEC report about him outraising Gallegly in the last 90 days. ( But Gallegly still has a pile o' cash bigger than Tom Delay's ego)

Note: I modified the above picture.
Diane Lenning can operate a Ham Radio. Take that Jack O'Connell!
I have been checking out local candidates' websites as we get closer to the primary campaign. Before election day I would like to have an awards press release about the best local campaign sites. If you know of one please post your nomination and why.
I will use the feedback in choosing winning sites. I haven't thought of nifty titles so if you have one in mind, leave that too. I will give you an example:
In the catergory of Too Much Information (TMI): I nominate Diane Lenning

The above picture was taken @ The Simi Valley Street Fair. If you missed it, you missed the political event of the season. I will continue sharing my pictures from the event all week. This picture is of Jim Dantona and his Mother.
The Board of Supervisors put together a voluntary campaign spending limit system which can be broken by all candidates if one candidate spends over $119,000. Peter Foy has now gone over the limit which allows Jim Dantona and Judy Mikels to also spend more.
I don't know what impact going over the limit has legally. What changes? Can someone with more knowledge chime in?

Jim Alger's signs have dropped all around town. Here is a picture I took by the McDonald's on Yosemite. His signs don't say what position he is running for and they seem really small/short.
I can see the tactics involved with this though. The primary will soon be over. When all the paper signs are worn down, Team Alger can pick up their signs and wait until the end of summer. Durable and strong over big and flashy.
The question remains if anything Alger does can break open the race because of the partisan numbers. Democrats will retain the state assembly with or without this seat, so state level help might be tough to come by. On the other hand, Alger might be able to get interest by spending some money. He does own his own plane, which means I would imagine he could throw in a few bucks and attract attention.
Thoughts?

I had a chance to talk to Judy Mikels, her husband, and her staff at the street fair. They promised to start sending more press releases my way as we get closer to election day. Some of her booth volunteers also confirmed they read this blog.
Thanks Supervisor Mikels for making this year's street fair a great chance for voters to meet the candidates.

I had a chance to speak to Cameron Smyth at the Street Fair last weekend. I also picked up his literature titled " Cameron Smyth...The Endorsed Republican".
With a catchphrase like that I think the best questions should be asked to the people who have endorsed him.
On a personal note: Thanks Cameron for coming out to the street fair. Also, thanks for spending time talking to bloggers like me. Although your primary election looks to be a foregone conclusion, I appreciate your respect to the democratic process. I hope to see you in some debates in the near future.
More Americans want George W. Bush impeached then wanted Bill Clinton impeached says a new poll.

Operation Eagle Defense Update ( for previous weeks click here).
A friend recently asked me for examples of things that the government does well at. I of course mentioned several ( Social Security, Medicare, Head Start, Rural Electrification,) but one I did not mention was being the prime mover in environmental protection. This is not to say it has been flawless, but without government direction, much progress could not be made.
Recently, another local blog has argued that DDT is not dangerous. Of course most people do not agree, and would think it is a waste of time to even argue with DDT supporters. But, if we allow people to attack the fundamentals of science they will not stop there.
So, I am using humor to point out the fact that DDT KILLS BALD EAGLES and doing weekly updates until a retraction is issued.
The image above is a picture of a government agent helping to bring back a species that was once endangered but is now thriving. Just another government success. I am sure Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and others will be bragging about how well government works soon.

This picture is from the corner of Galena and Cochran right outside of the street fair on Saturday.( What is going on with the Mayor Lopez sign?)
The Street fair in a primary election is the biggest event for voters and politicians to meet. Any candidate serious about winning should be there. I saw many of my readers and many local leaders.
I saw Council Member Steve Sojka, Jim Dantona, Judy Mikels, Peter Foy, Michael Tenenbaum''s campaign, The Simi Valley Republicans, Simi Valley Democrats, Cameron Smyth, and I just missed Bob Larkin. I also heard Elton Gallegly was there for a short time in the moring, but I must of missed him too. Someone said Jim Alger( Democrat running against Smyth) and Rev. Jill Martinez ( Democrat running for congress) were also walking around. The only candidate for state wide office was Dr. Keith Richman ( Republican running for Treasurer). I will create entries and share my pictures in the days ahead.
I didn;t hear anything about Ferial Masry or Audra Strickland.

Warning: The above picture was modified. I added a line to the sign and the chicken wasn't really there
If you cluck on continue reading there is a press release from The Tenenbaum Campaign announcing their new campaign mascot. ( The above picture was taken at the Simi Valley Street Fair)
The Tenenbaum Campaign is having someone dressed as a chicken follow Elton Gallegly around to egg him into debating their candidate. I haven't yet seen the chicken so I had to draw an artist representation from eye witness accounts.
So, will it work? Will the Tenenbaum campaign get the attention they want? Will there be coverage in local newspapers? Will Tim Keaney complain that I modified the picture? Will Elton Gallegly debate Michael Tenenbaum? Does he need to? Will I stop asking questions?

If you type into google some key words about Bald Eagles this blog is now number one. But Operation: Defend the Bald Eagles has never been about me. It has been about the little guys that symbolize our nation.

I publish events for different parties. If your group is holding an event, let me know.

George W. Bush was quoted as saying that at the top of the list of his best moments in the last 5 years was catching a fish...

The above picture is of a Judy Mikels sign on Happy Face hill, a local hotly contested development issue. I can't believe anyone running for office would put their name on the hill, since it could be used as evidence ( rightfully or wrongly) that they support the project.
If you have a picture of a sign in an interesting location, e-mail it to me and I will post it.
UPDATE: Some people missed the point. I don't know if Judy Mikel's supports the project. I don't know if any of the candidates do. It is a great place to get exposure for a campaign, I just don't know if it would be worth it.
Duncan Hunter wants to turn some public lands in our area into a private, rich person's hunting preserve. Will Elton Gallegly stop him?

I recieved a Jim Dantona mailer today that was quite interesting. It listed Judy Mikel's 2nd home address in Arizona ( from a title company) and has hard hitting quotes like:
"By the time I go through eight years in the senate, I'm going to be in a nice desert home in Arizona". -Judy Mikels Los Angeles Times Feb. 2000.
Jim Dantona also kept up the issue of Judy's attendance at transportation meetings.
Is it working? Do more and more voters really believe Judy Mikels doesn't live here or that her attendance at meetings is the number one issue?
Did Jim Dantona just make an issue of where Judy Mikels plans to retire?
How is Peter Foy staying out of all of this mess?
If you get a mailer from a candidate, go ahead and post the contents. Some candidates only target members of a certain party ( I have heard, but don't know for sure, that Peter Foy targets Republicans for example) so, by posting it you really are sharing with everyone.
Update: If you ever feel like a personal, unfair attack has been posted on this website, please e-mail me and I can remove it.

Michael Tenenbaum signs are up all around town.
Click on continue reading to find out more about the Tenenbaum for congress event I attended.

The above image was cut and pasted from Capoliticalnews.com . This blog is not in anyway connected to that blog. I might of altered the image, but just a bit.
( Qucik update: A local blog is defending DDT, the pesticide that was banned for many reasons, including the fact that it KILLS BALD EAGLES! These ongoing entries are to ridicule anyone who dares attack our Nation's symbol including capolitcalnews.com . For the earlier entries in the series click here and here.)
This is too good to be true. The image above is pretty ironic once you know the source.
I couldn't make this up even if I wanted to. Capoliticalnews.com, a local blog that promotes the use of DDT ( even though DDT KILLS BALD EAGLES) actually uses the Bald Eagle as their symbol. I hope they don't feed their bald eagle DDT.
If you don't understand how DDT KILLS BALD EAGLES click here.
Hopefully soon they wil admit they were wrong and apologize to the environmentalists they attacked. If capolitcalnews.com aplogizes to I will donate a whole jar of change to a Bald Eagle recovery program.

In his latest entry Blogger Timm Herdt refers to Tom McClintock as "the senator from Thousand Oaks".
Okay, besides at official functions has anyone seen Tom McClintock about town? At dinner or at the movies ever? Tom McClintock has moved to Sacramento and hs isn't coming back.
He is going to keep active in poltiics and he is going to use Sacramento as his base. It makes sense. That is where the action is. It is easier to make meetings and media events. Timm Herdt is there. Owning AND living in two houses can be really expensive. I understand all of that, so can we all just admit he moved away and isn't coming back?
If I am wrong, I will own up to it. I see Elton Gallegly about town all the time. I have seen him at Applebee's and I have seen him at Home Depot.
Has anyone sen Tom McClintock besides at official functions or poltical events? Maybe at Baja Fresh? In a grocery Store? If so, leave a message, and if I get the sense I am wrong I will correct myself. Please leave a comment with where you have spotted him.

Brian Dennert here with a tip for all candidates. The Simi Valley Street Fair is this Saturday. It is the best oppurtunity to meet the voters that happens before the primary. I expect many of the candidates to be there.
I will be there and will be taking pictures for this blog. If you have any ideas of shots I should take, let me know.
Will your candidate or campaign be there? If so, please post here, so we all know who we can go find out more information from.
Readers: Do you guys go most years? What has been the highlight in the past for you?

Another attack website designed to bring attention to Audra/Tony Strickland.
Any ideas on the background of who made it? What group/s are supporting the attacks? On this one website she is attacked for being: Corrupt, conservative, liberal, being like Jack Abramoff/Gray Davis.
If anyone has backround information please share.
Local Republicans are now hiring. Any guesses what this is for?
