New Peter Foy endorsements...

FoythrowingHay.jpg

Peter Foy has a press release with his latest endorsements ( Click on continue reading to read it) which raises some real interesting questions.

1. Will Judy Mikels endorse Foy? He practically called her a RINO ( Republican in name only) and knocked her out early. He is also clearly aligned with the Strickland faction of Republican politics. The Stricklands and Judy Mikels have battled over a few issues including Judy's support of Audra's primary opponent in her first run. But I don't think Jim Dantona has much of a shot at her endorsement either.

2. What was Glen Becerra thinking endorsing Peter Foy? If he supported Jim Dantona he would of been supporting a Democrat. And we know partisan party activists won't be having any of that.

But...now that he supports Peter Foy he will be helping the more conservative activist wing of the party. By doing so he empowers The Stricklands and Peter Foy for running for higher office.

Imagine Peter Foy Vs Glen Becerra in the Republican Primary less than two years from now. Or Tony Strickland endorsed by Peter Foy, County Supervisor and Tom McClintock, former State Senator. Will Glen Becerra really help someone that will turn around and support his eventual opponent? Becerra needs all the allies he can get if he plans on beating back a activist challenge. Maybe Glen Becerra isn't planning on running after all.

The safest bet was to stay neutral. But safe betting never made anyone a leader.

Here is the press release.

SUPERVISORIAL CANDIDATE FOY ANNOUNCES NEW ENDORSEMENTS
Frontrunner Foy Rolls Out Endorsements from Current and Former Local Officials

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Today, Peter Foy, the frontrunner for Ventura County Supervisor, announced the endorsements of several current and local elected officials. Endorsements included Simi Valley Councilman Glen Beccera, Moorpark Councilwoman Janice Parvin, Moorpark Councilman Keith Millhouse, Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District Director and past Chairman Elaine Freeman, and Ventura County Supervisor Vicky Howard (retired).

“Peter Foy’s commitment to reform is exactly what we need,” said Janice Parvin. “He’s the only candidate talking about what matters most to the people who live here-protecting our families from violent crime, holding government accountable, and reducing the role of special interests in county government.”

Small business owner Peter Foy came in first in the June Primary with 38.39 percent of the vote to lobbyist Jim Dantona’s 32.67 percent. Foy’s other endorsements include State Senator Tom McClintock, Assemblywoman Audra Strickland, and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer’s Association.

Comments

Peter Foy better get Glen's name right if he wants to use it for an endorsement it's Becerra not Beccera.

Great question about who Glen Becerra will support... which was, uh, answered by Foy's press release.

Maybe I was testing you. Or maybe I missed that. Either way fixed.

To "Farmer Foy",

I would delete your stuff but that would remove any evidence about your maturity or lack of it.

Repeating yourself just shows you have nothing constructive to say.

How many feel threatened by violent crime? Didn't we just hold our government administrators accountable and won't we do it again in November? And does Foy actually mean "REDUCING" the role of special interests or does he mean "REPLACING" them with different ones?

As for Mikels' endorsement: will Foy paimt himself with the same brush that did her in by accepting? And will Judy suddenly forgive that some of the worst of that painting came initially from Foy's side of the fence, such as the WMI scandal?

Glen is not going to run when he sees the other names running. He wants a coronation but isn't willing/able to kill the other princes like in a typical monarchy. Long Live the King!

Posted by: Not Elton Gallegly at July 30, 2006 12:40 AM

Becerra will run because he will be the only Republican with a long record of governing.

Voters trust a seasoned pro over a political neophyte or the freaks that go to party meetings all the time. Voters want a strong leader not a crank.

Posted by: The King at July 31, 2006 09:18 PM

I've always said that endorsements don't mean a damn thing. Sure, it looks good on a website, but voters don't pay much attention to that sort of stuff.

Though I will say that the Dantona supporters around here were always quick to tout his "bi-partisan" support. But when the rubber hits the road in the runoff election virtually all the elephants will line up behind Foy and all the donkeys behind Dantona. That's just the nature of the beast.

Posted by: Bubba Kidd at August 1, 2006 09:42 AM

Does this mean that you have absolutely NO confidence in anyone in the 4th supervisorial district to make a judgment independent of the label that they are told is affixed to a candidate? If so, that does not show much respect for the intelligence or freedom of the voters here. If my understanding is incorrect, please explain your opinion of how voters here do reach their decisions.

Posted by: Garibaldi at August 2, 2006 09:31 AM

You are right Garibaldi, I don't have much confidence in the intelligence of most voters. There are some informed voters, but most know little or nothing about the issues. Even among informed voters there are many who are biased or simply single-issue voters why are pre-disposed to voting for a particular political party regardless of the candidates. Heck, if Elton Gallegly died today (God forbid), he would still get elected in November because of that little "R" next to his name.

Besides, Dantona has already cooked his own goose by relying so much on negative campaigning that most voters are already turned off when they hear his name. Foy wins because of that little "R" next to his name and because people don't know anything about him so they have no reason to vote against him.

"Foy wins because of that little "R" next to his name and because people don't know anything about him so they have no reason to vote against him."

Not a very high impression of the voters who place Republicans in power eh Bubba?

I take it you were also appalled when Swift Boat Veterans "negatively attacked" a man who served in Vietnam? Just asking...

Posted by: "Stupid voters...mmm donuts!" at August 2, 2006 04:28 PM

Still waiting to hear what Foy stands for, what his plans are and how he expects to achieve them. Anyone know, besides Foy??

Posted by: gs at August 2, 2006 05:41 PM

It sure sounds, Bubba, like you are saying that the only way to win an election in this area is to register as a Republican and then play it coy with the voters by smiling and saying and doing nothing. Is that why you support him? That is: not because you know anything about him or what he stands for, but simply because unlike Mikels or Dantona he was unwilling to fight to win actually have positions on issues that effect the county?

I do not believe that even the most close-minded Republican partisans - whom you portray as a majority here - would not want to know what they are getting as an elected official: background, experience and policy positions.

Posted by: Garibaldi at August 2, 2006 07:09 PM

I love how I've evolved from being a Mikels covert operative into a Foy supporter. Some people around here simply don't like to hear the truth and do their best to rationalize away anything that doesn't fit their dogma.

I'm also amused by those around here who whine about the negative attacks against Democrats, such as the swift boat veteran thing, but at the same time seem to have no problem using fake National Guard memos or arguing for selective recounts and dimpled chads. That's some pretty hypocritical stuff. But for the record, I don't like negative campaigning from either party. So it seems that I'm at least being consistent, unlike many others around here.

As far as my lack of confidence in voters, most Democrats I know complain constantly about all the "stupid" voters who elected GWB twice. There are even those silly websites where liberals apologize to the world for all the "idiots" who elected our current president. So don't get all self-righteous, acting like you are appalled at my lack of confidence in voters. The only time democrats have confidence in the system is when they win, otherwise it becomes yet another "stolen" election.

And for the record, I didn't vote for GWB. But that won't stop certain people from branding me as a right-wing fanatic simply because I won't join their Dantona cult. That seems to be the M.O. around here, smear anyone who speaks out against their guy. Easier to smear than to stick to the issues.

Posted by: Bubba Kidd at August 2, 2006 08:03 PM

I did not think I said all of those things!

I do not vote based on party label, nor do most of those folks that I know. I guess I was just surprised that you seemed to think that you were one of the few in the 4th district that was disposed to be open-minded.

My comments really had more to do with my more positive view of human nature and human behavior - yes, even in politics - in my three score years on this planet. Somehow, this democratic (small "d") experiment has somehow managed to muddle through despite fears that the masses do not know what is best for them.

Do not take this wrong. It is a difference in viewpoint based perhaps on our individual analysis of what each of us has observed.

Posted by: Garibaldi at August 2, 2006 08:45 PM

Garibaldi, don't get me wrong, I really wish voters were more informed. The fact that so many voters don't research the issues allows politicians to rely on soundbytes and negative campaigning. That is not how our democratic process is suppose to work. Why is it that we have 90% voter turnout in Afghanistan where people travel on foot for miles and risk their lives to cast a ballot, yet in California we stuggle to get 30% of registered voters to break away from their T.V. sets long enough to take 10 minutes out of their time to vote? It is unfortunate. I take no pleasure in the fact that so many citizens don't seem to care. It doesn't need to be that way. If people cared and got involved then we wouldn't have these mindless campaigns and gerrymandered incumbants. But the truth is that most people don't know a damn thing about the 4th District Supervisor race and I bet a a large percentage can't even name the candidates. Most people don't even know what a Supervisor does, nor can they speak intelligently on many of the important issues that impact our community.

During the last election I was watching the news and they had new cameras recording voters as they were exiting the polls. I remember them interviewing some guy and the reporter asked him how he voted on a certain proposition and he laughed and admitted that, although he voted yes, he hadn't actually read the proposition and really didn't know what it was about. That's sad, but unfortunately not uncommon.

Posted by: Bubba Kidd at August 3, 2006 09:17 AM

My suggestion for the answer to all of this: if people want voters to be more involved, the best way is to be more involved yourself in a campaign and conveying that to everyone that you meet in that work. It does not matter who the candidate is, but only that you really believe in that person and what they advocate in terms of ideas and personal service to the voters.

I have been active in political campaigns since 1966 and have found it to be the best way to feel that I am doing something to make a real difference - one voter at a time. All these words that you and I write hear do not mean much compared to teaching by the example of commitment. I think that was what Ralph Waldo Emerson meant when said that "Books are for a scholar's idle time."

Posted by: Garibaldi at August 3, 2006 08:16 PM

The worst Bamboozling of America is from those that propigate the idea that IT DOESNT MATTER WHO WINS and YOUR VOTE REALLY DOESNT COUNT. It's a major reason why extremes of both parties are getting elected, why incumbents are so hard to remove and why lobbying is the biggest growth industry in America.

The above appears to ba about the best we are going to hear from the "Farmer" this campaign, but it does not win any high marks with anyone for either thought or originality.

It is becoming clear that we are not dealing with Ronald Reagan or any kind of communicator here - great or otherwise.

Good luck voters!
