I am hoping that Elton Gallegly makes ethics reform a part of his platform this year. The House of Representatives needs some serious help.
Rep. Bob Ney of Ohio is scheduled to plead guilty to criminal charges. He might end up in prison making him the second member of the house to be locked up. He wasn't running for reelection but part of me wonders how he got this far in his party? Why won't members of the house stand up against one another when there is corruption. Nothing erodes faith in government like corruption regardless of party.
Hopefully Gallegly will speak out on this criminal. If not this time, he will most likely get another chance as I doubt this is the last person who should be wearing handcuffs in The Republican Lobbyist Scandal.
If the Democrats win back the House it will be because the House Republicans wouldn't clean up their own mess.

Both major political parties have provided their respective share of scum bags. Although the latest batch mostly have the letter R after their names, but whoever violates ethics should draw public wrath.

In the run up to the 1994 elections Democrats had grown comfortable and didn't watch their ethics like they should have. That being so they deserved and were thrown out.

To ignore the fact that the house leadership has been controlled by known and admitted felons by pointing out that it happened it the past is a weak defense.
Voters including myself want our government back.
By the way, I found out about Ney from the drudgereport.com about as far from being liberal as they come. The drudgereport also broke The Monica story.

Earmarks by the thousands inevitably bring scandals by the dozens. This month has already brought two. The U.S. attorney in New Jersey subpoenaed records from a deal involving Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez and a Hudson County nonprofit that starting in 1994 paid Mr. Menendez a total of $329,353 to rent a building that he owned. At the time, the nonprofit was run by a political ally of Mr. Menendez. Later, the same group was the recipient of millions in federal funding after Mr. Menendez, then in the House, broadened federal grant standards to include that nonprofit.
Meanwhile, Sen. Maria Cantwell, a Democrat from Washington state, helped arrange $11.6 million in federal earmarks in the past year for projects benefiting clients of a lobbyist who is advising her re-election campaign and still owes her between $15,000 and $50,000 from a personal loan. Both senators say they sought the funding because it benefited their states.

In both cases you have mentioned above the jury is still out. No one has been indicted or charged. However both Randall Cunningham (R) and Bob Ney (R) are going to jail. And since you're dealing in speculation, so will I, Tom Delay (R) will be going to jail too. Going a little further, George Bush and Dick Chaney should go to jail. I can dream can't I?

Gallegly basically has tenure but nobody has ever argued he is really up to the job. Just because you are better than a few minor Democrats doesn't exactly make you a power house on the Hill.
Legislation with his name that wouldn't of passed without him? I am glad that he has spent 20 years yelling about Illegal Immigration without getting somethign done. That is the type of leadership I want! Not! Give me Tom Tancredo anyday!
