Did anyone see this article by Tom Parker about the recent 9/11 tribute in Simi Valley? Seems like it was put on by the defense dept. I was not there but anyone that was I want your input about it.

Nothing is more important than keeping our young people out the grasp of this corrupt and incompetent adminstration.
The military is in shambles with inadequate equipment and too few deployed, but Halliburton is doing just fine. Generals who served in Iraq call the head Rumsfeld incompetent. Soldiers are facing capital charges for what they claim was following orders. Exposure to depleted uranium, the results of which can haunt a family through genetic defects long after the military member has passed away, is given little attention and the government accepts no responsibility for it. So much more....
The administartion supports the troops only in rhetoric. Mr. Parker's objection to 911 victims being used in the same way is well taken.

If you think the military is in such a shambles I suggest you call Boxer's and Feinstein's offices and insist that the DoD budget be increased immediately. Bring back the draft, too.
Those are Marines being charged, not soldiers. There's a difference. And no service member is obligated to follow an illegal order, which murder would be.

Margie,
I watched your hero, Billy Jeff Clinton, blow a gasket on TV the other day when Chris Wallace pinned him down on the crappy job he did searching for Bin Laden. Clinton decimated the military and didnt have the right tools for the job. Liberals are the ones who try to catch a bird by putting salt on his tail. Clinton did a bad job, tried to shift the blame, and whined about things not being fair. But you just keep on writing in, sweetheart, because you are most entertaining.

Oh yeah, I've worked with depleted uranium, Cesium 137, Americium 241 Beryllium, radioactive Iodine and Xenon, and Iridium for about 30 years. We have to monitor the REMs of each item before transportation and perform leak tests quarterly. Depleted uranium is so benign as to have no gamma radiation above natural background radiation. Alpha radiation is blocked by the skin and Beta radiation is blocked by clothing, boots, gloves, etc. Due to its density we used it for a sinker bar and the military uses it for bullets. If you don't each one, you'll be fine.

As it is, the DoD budget is outrageous and accounting is irresponsible. I'm not making this up. It's well know. Someone needs to curtail thte irresponsible looting of our resources. And it does not mean our troops are adequately equipped nor that their needs are taken care of. The money goes to the war industry not the folks obliged to fight.
The marines charged with killing claim they were following orders. Perpetrators of other homicides who claim individual responsibility are not facing capital punishment.
Red Cross, Amnesty International, the foreign press, independent journalists all report a pattern of abuse of Iraqi citizens as well as detainees. One Iraqi dude talks about the occupation bringing electricity to his privates before his neighborhood, proof the human capacity to find humor transcends all.
If you follow orders, you get shafted. If you don't you may not get out alive.
You want to send your kids into this? You want to go yourself?
I will happily nominate you for the Darwin Award. And the guy working with depleted uranium too.

Question ..... ?
Why is it that an OP ED like this shows up 16 days after the event?
Answer?
Pathetic, partisan, political, propaganda that putrified the programing of an otherwise honorable event ...... among other things.

Watch the Daily Report at 8 tonight for a good look at torture issue, particularly those of you who believe this issue was compromised away satisfactorily.
Our people will continue to be placed in the position of violating international law or refusing what will become a domestically lawful order under this administration. You want your kid to step into this? Do you want yourself?
And do you think only terrorists need worry about the loss of the ancient right of habeas corpus? Talk to Canadian Arar, who was grabbed at JFK, held incommunicado, shipped to Jordan released to Syria where he was tortured and otherwise abused for a year. This was a totally innocent Canadian. He looks like us, talks like us, has a correct passport, was doing nothing wrong when grabbed.
I mention the Daily Show because Jon Stewart manages to make things absolutely clear at a level the people on this board might understand. Heaven forfend I should give them something hard like the BBC news.

Other news, from the BBC, this time.
A leaked assessment from their military states the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are going badly and that the coalitions continueing presence serves as a recruiting agent for al Queda.
The highest ranking US officer in Iraq states violence in Iraq is higher than any time since the invasion.
The BBC showed a clip of our GIs in a bad Badhdad neighborhood barking orders to cowering women who clearly did not understand what he was saying. No weapons were found and fortunately no one was hurt, but the Iraqi forces, who might have translated, failed to show, possibly fearing for their own safety.
Civilians claim they fear the police and occupation forces rather than insurgents.
Keep your kids out of this morass. Keep yourself as well. If recruiters show at their schools, keep your kid away from them. Keep their information out of recruiters' hands. You have that right. Talk to your school.

I've never seen such hatred from people who know absolutely nothing about that which they comment. They are able only to spout political rhetoric as they hear it but to surface no original ideas. See and smell the blood of parents and children of those PURPOSELY killed by Islamic extremists to make a political point, as did I in the Philippines, and perhaps the attitude would change.
What is upsetting to me, is that the leaked information is quoted in convenient sound bites --- little pieces of the whole pie. You who take them without seeing the entire document or understanding the overall context are as backwards as the Muslims who took to the streets and who shot the nun in the back from their misinterpretation of what was said by the Pope.
Though some bad eggs will get into the military (as some who entered thanks to McNamara's Project 100,000 during Vietnam), the percentage of those who are messed up is probably much less in the military than in society in general. Looking at statistics, by the way, as a military person, you are less likely to be shot in Iraq than in Washington, DC. If you take into consideration the persons shot per population --- the liklihood of being shot or killed in Iraq is far less than in DC.
The enemy is Islamic extremism, not Republicans or Democrats. Any person who makes every issue a partisan one has automatically lost credibility.

The Internet is buzzing with all this hatred is going. An October surprise--an attack on Iran before the election and the "Islamist extremism" stuff is to pave the way.
Manwhile the UN is saying the Israeli are turning Gaza into a prison that none can escape. I has no right to self defense nor ability to control who enters their territory for any reason. A 14 yerar old girl was killed by an Israeli attack today. And they can do nothing about it.

Afghanistan suffered two deadly bombings on Tuesday that killed 20 people, providing another sign of the increasing size and power of suicide attacks and roadside bombs by insurgents. Civilians increasingly have been paying the price of the more frequent and devastating attacks. More than 150 civilians have been killed by suicide bombings this year.
The New York Times | The Fine Art of Declassification
http://www.truthout.org/docs_200...6/ 092706K.shtml
The New York Times's editors write: "It's hard to think of a president and an administration more devoted to secrecy than President Bush and his team. Except, that is, when it suits Mr. Bush politically to give the public a glimpse of the secrets. And so, yesterday, he ordered the declassification of a fraction of a report by United States intelligence agencies on the global terrorist threat." They continue: "But the three declassified pages from what is certainly a voluminous report told us what any American with a newspaper, television or Internet connection should already know. The invasion of Iraq was a cataclysmic disaster."
Dave Lindorff | Bush War III: Going to War to Save His Own[****]
http://www.truthout.org/docs_200...6/ 092706B.shtml
Dave Lindorff writes: "Unless the American people and their ostensible representatives in Congress act quickly to make it clear that the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force does not apply to an attack on Iran, and that it did not make the president a dictator with the power to make war at will, I'm betting that we'll be at war with Iran before Election Day."

Question? Isn't it true that sitting on the shelf, in your hand or in a 500 pounder on the wing of an F - 18, that within 6 inches of the material, Uranium 238, measurements of 300 milli rads per hour have been made?
Question? Isn't it true that Depleted Uranium when first fired out of the barrel of gun, immediately ignites and produces Uranium Oxides?
Question? Isn't it true that once a round of D U hits its target, or anything for that matter, the physical material, Uranium 238, Depleted Uranium, the munitions can break down into .1 micron particles?
I have more questions regarding this material and use of of weaponry made from it. Many consider it a WMD and i tend to believe the reports i have read that classify it as such.
With a half life of over 4 billion years, these .1 micron particles remain in the area regardless of peace treaties that may or may not be reached. The wind can then re-mobilize these particles and they are easily inhaled.
Question? What of the birth defects that are being reported not only in the Iraqi population, but in our own families of Veterans that have deployed to and returned alive from Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas where this type of weaponry has been used and continues to be used today?
What of this sir? Is this another "Greenie" myth?
Respectfully Requested,
Michael Stettler

Margret,
Don't forget about Philadelphia.
Do a look up and see how many people died there last month. I appreciate your looking out for Palestinians. Just don't forget about Philadelphians Betsy.
Who are you making fun of with your improper english?
Sometimes I have to do a whole lot of editing and mess up the grammer.
I am glad the government reminds us why we fight. Seems like their job.
Seems like we have made peace with the Taliban. Over the weekend Bill Frist said we should consider letting them into the Afghan government.
Cut and run Republicans!
