(This picture is from John McCain's days as a POW in the North Vietnamese Hanoi Hilton.)
It is a great reminder of what John McCain was doing while George W. Bush was using family connections to avoid the war even though he would later attack people that did serve.
A passionate John McCain supporter is organizing Ventura County. Click on continue reading to read his letter and join the campaign.
In 2000 I supported John McCain in the Republican primaries by helping to organize my college. I no longer support him as he has moved to get W.'s support and moved closer to the Falwell/Robertson branch of his party.
But all of that said, he is the best Republican when it comes to so many issues that even though I disagree with him on a variety of issues, I trust him.
If you are going to vote Republican, get involved early to pick a decent nominee. Don't let history repeat itself. Unless of course you are one of the 28% that think W. is doing a great job. I have a feeling even that 28% wishes that some other Republican would of become president. Jeb perhaps?
Here is John McCain's
myspace account.
Official website.

Well put Neal!
So who will you be supporting later this year after he drops out of the race?
Neal,
Who are many activist Republicans supporting?
I know Steve Frank is a consultant to Rudy and of course Flap's blog is devoted to Rudy too.
The Stricklands are supporting Romney from what I understand.
But what about other Republicans?
Has Gallegly endorsed anyone yet? I know he bragged about McCain's support in a 2000 mailer.
I went to one of Elton Gallegly's consultants listed in his finance reports but Gallegly is mentioned. I was hoping to see the McCain mailer from Gallegly. Does anyone have a copy? Did Gallegly endorse John McCain?
There is no doubt that some local Republicans are supporting other candidates, and many are hanging back waiting for some definitive event to narrow the field for them. That's to be expected when one has a rich field of choice and a wide spectrum of political views, as we have in this County. The bottom line is that we can once again choose to shoot ourselves in the foot by insisting on ideological purism, however we define that from our narrow individual perspectives, or we can decide to nominate a candidate that can cross lines and attract the votes of mainstream America, and that is John McCain and only John McCain. McCain is the correct choice if Republicans wish to win the Presidency in 2008 and not simply make an ideological statement that only serves the interests of a small group of power players who would rather control the Party than win elections.

McCAin has no chance of getting the nomination. The GOP is no longer the party of conservative America. It is the party of right wing fundamentalists and McCain no longer fits that ideal. Either the GOP will nominate an example to its core beliefs or it will lose its christian right base. The CR will not flock to the polls for McCain and if the CF doesn't come out to vote for THEIR candidate the GOP loses more House & Senate seats.
What does McCain have that local all star supported by Steve Frank, Barbra Williamson, AND Cameron Smyth, Rudy! doesn't have?
Except for conservative values, military service, national experience, deeply earned respect, and the like?
Looks like McCain's race is coming to an early close. Giuliani's should be tiring out soon. Romney will continue to raise big $$$ and spend it with abandon but he'll be snubbed at the convention. Thompson will be seen for the self-absorbed opportunist he really is. Huckabee may just slide in at the last minute on a tubful of Grade A conservative lard. I'm still guessing the GOP will find a true champion of its core neo-values, even if that nominee hasn't a chance in hell of winning the White House.
Forget the primary. Dick Cheney will have a 'health emergency' and resign. Bush will appoint Fred Thompson. He will be the nominee.
Personally, I've never liked him because he 'married up' and when he was in the inner circle of Tenn. politics, he shed his wife.
By his own admission, he said 'I chased the girls and the girls chased me.'
A bizzare moment on a recent Law and Order where Thompson was the DA and Rudy's second wife, Donna Hanover, was the judge.
That's an interesting scenario, Kate. Maybe all these "I ain't with Bush but I'll do things his way!" candidates are lining up to be tapped when Cheney does feign disability and flees into exile in Qatar. There's no other logic behind Rudy & Thompson, et al's determination to expand the war to Iran.
Curiouser and curiouser.
Looks like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have raised millions more than McCain did and a huge percentage of that is coming from small donors!
Yeah, but they'll need all those big bucks for the primary when they are the last two standing. Then you'll see some huge dollars spent on a mega smear campaign so they can go at each other like Godzilla and Roldan.
I don't think Barack Obama will go negative in the primary. It might be the practical course of action but it runs counter to is message.
Anything he does though won't be as bad as what happened to McCain in South Carolina in 2000.
That was classic.
Listen, I have a Barack Obama 2008 sticker on the back of my car.
I wear my "Obama Mama" shirt everywhere.
But if you think my man isn't going negative, you're sorely mistaken Dennert. He already has.

What happened to McCain in 2000?
Hold on a minute! I'm just coming in on this one! Are you freakin kidding me...Neal Andrews! He's my city councilmen in Ventura!
Wow, I guess he no longer is concerned about being considered partisan, especially since he's not up for reelection this year.
Wow. Wow.
McCain voted against torture. That makes him an unrepublican.
Or an American.
Same thing.
Seriously, we legalized torture under Bush.
Sure, McCain "only" raised $11 million this quarter. But those trying to make that seem like a failure need a reality check. His competitors, Guiliani and Romney, "only" raised a million or so more and both raised less than the previous quarter, if I recall the numbers correctly, and if either were such dynamos as to have the nomination sewed up it would have been dramatically more. The fact is that McCain raised his money while remaining true to his principles. When you are irritating some of the biggest sources of money in this country with your principled stands, it is remarkable that you can still generate this amount of money and are still in contention. The nomination is still a long way off, but McCain remains the only Republican with a chance to win the election in 2008. No one else can hope to resonate with the great American center. Let's give him the recognition and support he deserves. Go McCain!
Reality check, please! McCain's been one of Bush's staunchest War supporters so he wont get any crossover votes from left of center voters AND he has no support amongst the far right & christian fundamentalists. So where is does he fit in with this "Great American Center"? And let's stop hawking McCain as a man of principles. He's not. He simply rode the Reagan wave til political expedience forced him to switch boards and ride the Bush wave, then pandered to the religious right, dropped his support for real campaign finance reform, got co-opted by the lobbying industry and really has no plans for America's future except continue the Bush Agenda.
McCain is toast! He's got less money than Ron Paul! Regardless of the fact that I don't like him and he's a complete moron, devoting any time or undeserved attention is a waste of time. No longer a top tier candidate - he's barely a second tier candidate.
What's with all the McCain Bashing?
Do you guys know something The two leading papers in Iowa and THE only major paper in New Hampshire don't?
National Surveys indicate He clearly is the best bet to beat Hillary. That alone should encourage folks to vote for him.
ABC (For once) had it right.Randy Rudy and Droopy Thompson, along with Brother Romney the Guy who's in bed with the Chinese, are slipping. And as good a man as he is, Huckabee CAN NOT WIN THE GENERAL. Let's get smart and WIN with McCain. Any other choice returns those two traitors (Chillary and Bubba) back!
You take a very short sighted view of your president and forget that the fight was looming for a long time. Your hate for Bush is sad as he has taken the action that needed to be taken and the lives that have been lost from all the allies are sullied by your comments. They fought for your freedoms and you abuse them.
This photo was posed. John McCain is no hero. He is making a very feeble attempt at looking like he's in pain when that Vietnamese-American in the photo who is "taking his vital signs" is also smiling and trying to pose for the camera.
More than likely, he ran through a bramble bush or a rose bed full of thorns after someone popped off a firecracker that he THOUGHT was a gun. That's how he hurt himself. That's why he don't look all that busted up and only one scratched-up arm is bandaged. The military is into photo promotions and this is one of those. "No John, you gotta look like you're in pain, lots of pain -- no, John, do NOT say 'cheese'!"
To deny the pain and torture McCain endured is outright nonsense. It is documented that he was shot down, held for 5 1/2 years, and endured many techniques designed to break him.
Heather, you posted a youtube video not created by Barack Obama or his campaign. That isn't fair either.
