The above video is from a WM strike in South LA. I have never heard anything about labor being upset with WM locally but is that about to change? Is there a chance the strike will spread?
Here is a story from the strikers' perspective. If you have further insight please leave a link for us to read.

Workers at the Simi Valley dump can't strike. They aren't organized. Waste Mgt. has been able to keep the Teamsters out thus far. The safety record of Simi Valley's trucks is very bad. Salaries are very bad. Nearly all the workers commute from the north San Fernando Valley because of the low salaries and benefits. Simi Valley, as a community, would be much better off if the dump workers had better wages and benefits and the Teamsters would be a win-win for both the community and the workers.
Hey CAP812...
Let it be known that the Task Force has been watching this very closely...
Why should we, the citizens of Simi Valley, want to have local workers paid more when it could drive up our costs? Has anyone tried to unionize the local landfill recently?
Seems unions have been too busy complaining about Wal-Mart to help out these workers.
Yea, damn the unions. Bring back the sweat shops. Richest nation in the world and you worry about paying the garbage collection man a few extra dollars? God forbid our trash bill goes up $3.00 per month so 300 workers can afford to live in Simi Valley instead of commuting from San Fernando. Yea, damn those unions.
Here in Taylor,PA the workers at Alliance Landfill which is owned and operated by Waste Management are non-union. However, I still think they should know the way that thier corporation treats its employees.
Maybe, I'll make a copy of that union website info and forward it to some of thier employees so they can have a look to see what thier corporation does.....
Great job with the info Brian!
Go Teamsters. Bring Waste Mgt. and its Houston gumbas to their knees. If they try any monkey business, bring out the baseball bats. That is the only measure they understand.
Great job supporting the teamsters by suggesting they get violent. Not reinforcing any negative image problems for working men and women there.
If it requires baseball bats to unionize I'd rather have Simi Valley's landfill remain without a union.
Maybe as part of a deal to expand the landfill they will make the workforce union. When the workers get paid more the workers can live in Simi Valley and mitigate some of the traffic increase from the trash trucks.
Who do we speak to in an effort to get this compromise done?
SEIU is one of many decent unions I would trust.
Teamsters represent the truck drivers where unionized, not SEIU.
But isn't it up to local workers to choose which union to join? I don't know about Teamsters much but I know SEIU has represented workers decently.
