( Why isn't this spot playing in more places you McCainiacs? )
For people that have been reading for the last few months you will remember Owen Paun. He has traveled across the country on his own dime to help nominate John McCain. I admire Owen because he traveled to Iowa back when many local Republicans were backing people like Rudy Giuliani ( who spent the most amount of money in American history per delegate) , Fred Thompson, and others.
Now that the Mac is Back it looks like Owen Paun had foresight to help McCain while he was down but not out.
Owen has just e-mailed me his latest update on why he supports John McCain. Read it and add your thoughts. Owen, if/when McCain wins the nomination does that take immigration off of the table as a point to debate between the parties? McCain has made a an effort to remind people that immigrants are children of God too which is much different than the message of Tom Tancredo who wanted to end immigration both legal and illegal.
What should Owen Paun do next? Should he go national and keep working for McCain or should he start organizing Ventura County?
I think local Democrats want you to pack up. At least until they beat the Republicans at the voter registration drives.

McCain Endorsement
by Owen Paun
John McCain is a consistent and principled conservative with the foreign policy experience vital to leading America in these times.
A fiscal hawk, John McCain is dedicated to making sure government lives within its means. In 25 years in Congress he never once asked for or received an earmark for his state of Arizona, and has promised to make famous anyone who requests pork barrel projects. Senator McCain has always come down on the side of life, earning a 0% from NARAL Pro-Choice America. He understands the importance of judges, and will appoint strict constructionists with proven records who won't legislate from the bench.
John McCain considers principle to be more important than politics. He does what he thinks is best for America, not necessarily what the political winds or polls indicate. When he was under fire from all sides for supporting the surge, he explained that he would "rather lose an election than a war.? It's important to have a leader who will tell you straight what he believes, you don't have to worry that he'll say something else when the door is closed.
When John McCain was first captured in Vietnam, he was tortured daily. After some time, the North Vietnamese finally figured out that his father was an admiral. They decided to release him to gain some good PR. McCain refused. He would only go if everyone who was captured before him were also set free. He knew what was coming, and because of that decision he remained another five years in a POW camp. John McCain's life has embodied the values of duty, honor, courage, and sacrifice. He has proven time and again what he is made of, and when he is president no special interests or media pressure will sway him.
The overriding struggle of our times is against Islamic terrorism. Americans are in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan on a daily basis, and John McCain understands what is necessary for us to win. McCain's surge, which no other candidate supported at the time, is responsible for a clear decease in civilian and military deaths in Iraq. McCain as Commander-in-Chief, we will win the war.
Republicans tomorrow have the opportunity to choose a candidate who has consistently stood up for the main values of Conservatism - fiscal, social, and defense. In doing so, we will offer America a true hero who can inspire and lead the country into the next century.

I think Owen Paun should replace a National Guards-person who has been deployed (kidnapped by the Republican party) to fight (for corporate profits and ego) in Iraq.
Fighting in Iraq has nothing to do with protecting the United States. The National Guard is for guarding our Nation not the nations of others.
If he does that I will vote for McCain.
Owen has done something to improve our nation, or at least attempted to do something that he thought would help.
Instead of telling us who you are against, how about you make the case for who you support?
I agree with "O". Owen has been a person of deep commitment and decency throughout this campaign. Although I'm disappointed that Giuliani didn't do better than he did, if McCain is good enough for my man, Owen, he's good enough for me.
Are you satisfied or energetic about your choice?
Owen, I love McCain's new attack ad against Flipflop Romney! Of course I won't vote for McCain in the general but I do like the fact he is kicking the crap out of Romney!
I guess you could say I'm satisfied with my choice, Brian. I still haven't voted for him yet, so there's a possibility things could change between now and November, but I'm pretty sure he will get my vote.
Not Owen, what is it that you like about McCain and dislike about Romney?
McCain took a stance on Iraq that was un-popular and he stuck to it. I don't agree with him but I respect he went on his own priciples and not on the polls. McCain also went on principle when he backed Bush on immigration, even though he knew Rush Limpdrug would slander him daily on the radio. Flip Flop Romney changes his views daily. He said years ago he was running against the Reagan era, today he embraces and wants to be Reagan. He flips and then flops. He cries against illegals and then hires them. Worst of all he hired Larry Craig, David Vitter and Tony Strickland to work on his campaign.
I don't think Romney shifted to the right from his earlier positions. I think his earlier positions were held so that he could run in Massachusetts and now that he is running in the Republican primary he is showing his true beliefs.
But I know other people that really think he changed.
His problem is that many people don't know which story is really true.
McCain has also been a leader on immigration reform and has destroyed one by one the divisive figure in the Republican Party who would try to deport millions of peopl. The Republican Party wanted to destroy itself with future generations if voters by allowing a Mitt " They mow my lawn but deport them within 90 days" type guy to get the nomination but McCain saved them.
McCain was already going to be tied to Iraq no matter what he did. But I admire that he said he'd rather lose a campaign than a war.
The guy is honest and decent. But Bush will drag him down. Again.
