WMI and GI Rubbish have announced that as part of their modernization and expansion plans they will be renaming the landfill to honor the local community. Allow me to introduce you to...

The Ronald Reagan Landfill and Recycling Plant!

They will also be erecting a statue of Reagan on one of the capped off landfill hills with a statue of Ronald Reagan that will look down on the Ronald Reagan 118 Freeway and The Ronald Regan Library.

The plan is to make the statue about the size of a 3 story building so that he will be visible from all over Simi Valley.

The plans go before the county today ( 4/1/2008) for the statue, 24 hour a day illumination, and for the proposed Berlin Wall made of 100% locally provided recyclable material.

The statue will read off a quote from Ronald Reagan every day at lunch time.

Now that made me laugh out loud. For a brief moment I actually thought it would be a good idea to have a 30 ft illuminated statue of dear Ronnie overlooking the 118. It must be time for my meds.

How exciting on behalf of Waste Management. Councilmember requested that the name be changed and Waste has responded. Fortunately, Waste has an astute lobbiest working for it who grabbed the pulse of the community. Now we can look to the dump with pride. It is about time. I hope the Landfill Expansion Task Force will recognize this new and improved dump application and join me in jumping on board. What more could Simi Valley ask for? Thank you Brian for bringing this to our attention.

Bill Davis... super genius...

How about a matching statue of Gallegly atop the Santa Susana Field Lab. Both edifices can face each other and we can animate them to wave as people enter both ends of the valley. One can say, "Welcome to Ventura County's SuperFundSite Gateway" while the other says, "Welcome to the Home of Ventura County's Next SuperFundSite". The postcards alone will be worth it to our children and grandchildren.
