Up and running
Tony Strickland's website for his State Senate ( CA 19, currently Tom McClintock R someplace not here ) run is up.
Make sure to sign up for his campaign updates.
Maybe see how silly of a name he will accept. Try Jack Abramoff, Barack Obama, John McCain, Karl Marx, Hannah Beth Jackson and Jim Dantona.
If he sends a release to your funny name post it here.
UPDATE: Apparently someone is upset that I am asking people to sign up to receive updates from Tony Strickland.
If you are upset because you support Tony Strickland I suggest you think about it before you start complaining. I am getting people to receive his updates and learn more about his campaign. How sinister can that be?
Feel comforted by the fact that this district is his for the losing. I think it is clear he is the front runner and has many reasons to expect to keep that title.
Comments
Typical Strickland.
Nothing but the Three R's: rhetoric, red herrings and Reagan.
Posted by: Not a fan at April 2, 2008 10:11 AMI agree with you, Brian. Tony has every reason to believe he's going to be elected to this seat. He's the clear front-runner and I can't see where Jackson has a prayer of defeating him, with absolutely no name recognition or measurable support in the east end of Ventura County.
Posted by: Mongo Flamo at April 2, 2008 11:29 PMMaybe Democrats should sign up under local Republican activist names so that we can't be deleted without the risk of deleting actual supporters.
This campaign favors a Republican. Stay smug and don't think about us. But we are plotting.

Posted by: Rasputin at April 3, 2008 12:40 AMGosh Mongo, I guess you don't follow the news. A year ago Republicans held a 10,000 vote advantage in VC, a month ago Dems took a 500 member lead and today Dems have a 3,500 member lead in VC. The local Republican party under the direction of Osborn at the VCRCC is sinking faster than the Titanic! Keep living in your fantasy world buddy! LOL-LOL-LOL!!!!!!!
Posted by: not mongo at April 3, 2008 07:42 AMIt's a big district. Few in Santa Barbara County have heard of Strickland. The majority of W. Ventura County voters (way more Dems) won't vote for him, either.
He is the epitome of what we're trying to purge from government these days.
Posted by: not a fan at April 3, 2008 11:49 AMHBJ has seven months to get known in Ventura County.

Brian Dennert and his blog has done an excellent job of explaining the inner-workings of the local political machine. He encourages awareness and community involvement. This should be a good site for large corporations to advertise that want to become a part of the community.
People shouldn't be surprised when Brian asks his readers to sign up for a U.S. Senator's blog news letter. They also shouldn't be surprised when he interjects some harmless fun in the process. It is expected that people will use creative aliases and Brian was just bringing attention to the fact.

In regards to Hanna Beth Jackson:
All the ingredients for success are there for Hanna Beth Jackson. If she can put herself in front of enough people and give them a can do impression she can win. Republicans are in trouble if they think their name recognition is their key to success. I think it's an insult to the voters. This State is in trouble and we need answers. Name recognition isn't going to fix them.

I think both candidates need to watch the turnout in June as a predictor of voter enthusiasm/turnout for the fall.
The only propositions that have qualified for the ballot are two conflicting ammendments to the constitution regarding emminent domain. Nothing that will skew the numbers by much.
If Strickland and Jackson each get similar numbers of votes in their respective uncontested primaries, then the large independent swing vote will be crucial to a win in November.

Ahh, Leslie, such a prognosticator. The math is easier to do than you may think. The growing (DTS)swing vote will surely gravitate towards the more highly recognizable name, particularly the East Ventura County contingent. And, that being the case, Tony clearly comes out on top.
Hannah-Beth Jackson's core support is in Santa Barbara County, where she will undoubtedly do much better than Tony. However, she has far less name recognition in Ventura County, even, to some extent, in the west part of the County. Conventional wisdom favors Tony, but politics is often filled with surprises.
Best of luck to you and your Democratic buddies. You're certainly going to need it.

Doesn't this notion run it's helmetless and possibly sun-addled head into a brick wall of reason when the growth of DTS voters is attributed in large part to people seeking to avoid names & ideologies and instead vote for the best candidates & issues?
Nov 8 will be the first time in a long time that the two parties will be voting for different reasons: Dems will be voting FOR candidatesthey support while Repubs will be voting AGAINST the opposition. Think about that. My guess is the entire country will elect blue.
GS, I've heard of "The Audacity of Hope" before, but this is ridiculous. Keep up those positive thoughts though, you'll need 'em.
Posted by: Mongo Flamo at April 9, 2008 08:48 AMWell, Mongo....
Maybe it's yours and your NeoCon buddies' Mendacity of Reality that's kept you guys from tossing your drowning nation the life preservers it needs. Or maybe its the Neos' Paucity of Hope that's jaded your black & white minds to seek guns & missiles above the welfare of your country. Perhaps its the Audacity of Corruption that makes folk like you stuff your bellies at the public trough even as you bar the doors to the truly deserving.
Whatever it is, the Nation's waking up to the Great Bamboozle and turning its collective back against you and yours. On November 5 you can take two aspirins and try to get some rest.
Posted by: gs at April 9, 2008 12:31 PMYeah, yeah, yeah. Blah, blah, blah...

Tony Strickland is a total disgrace. He should get a real job and quit living off the taxpayer! He only cares about his own bank account and he could careless about the people living in this district!
