2006?

Ferial Masry appears to be using a flyer left over from a previous campaign. There is nothing wrong with that but in this case it is potentially misleading as some voters would assume the Ventura County Star editorial quote is about her primary election opponent, David Hare when it is actually about Assembly Member Audra Strickland.

I call on Ferial Masry's campaign to clear this up and apologize.

If this mailer isn't really being used currently I apologize to the Masry campaign who besides this incidence runs a very ethical campaign in my experience.

Brian,
Are you saying there isn't a stark difference between Ferial Masry and her opponent in the primary election?

No, I am saying The Star editorial board didn't make that statement.

Lying to the voters. Not cool.

Brian,
The Star has previously realized stark differences in Ferial Masry and the usual politician. The Ventura County Star saw it then and I believe if they looked close enough they would see it again. Ferial Masry is not politics as usual.

oops... I did't do that on purpose.

She isn't a typical politician but she still shouldn't use a quote about Audra Strickland out of context to imply it is about a different opponent.

The mailer could have been a look back at her history of being published in prestigious news papers.

Either way it isn't honest. I expect the Masry campaign will apologize and admit it was an unintentional mistake.

Did you receive one of these flyers do you know anyone that did?

I am not in her district.

For the record:

I think it is a simple mistake that the Ferial Masry campaign will correct.

What was true then may be true today. She should not apoligize.
This is way more honest than telling us Tony is an enviromentalist.

Whoever John is that is a stupid comment and why say it 4 times in a row.

Ferial should apologize to David Hare but since she probably used it to be misleading in the first place she probably wont say shes sorry. Its too bad because it would show that she really cared about honesty in politics and isnt a typical politician. Shes lost my vote.

Does her silence in this matter of campaign misinformation indicate she condones it?

Ligor Hunter,

The quote was about the difference between Audra Strickland and Ferial Masry.

Mailing it out before the primary makes it look like The Star said it about the contest between Masry and Hare.

Brian,

With the deafening silence resonating from Ferial.s camp on the matter of correcting this misinformation, will The Star use its editorial page to make sure that voters know that they have made no such statement about the primary race in 2008?

I hope The Star's editorial board is willing to speak on behalf of truth in this matter even if Ferial will not.

I am not a part of the editorial board and have never attended a meeting of theirs.

I emailed Ferial Masry with what I thought was her current email address but I haven't heard back.

Again, I have only seen highly ethical behavior on her behalf in the past. This campaign mailed surprised me. I think she will apologize.

Call me naive but she seems like she has good intentions.

At this point, it's clear she won't apologize and the silence from her supporters on this subject is deafening.

It looks like she is no better than Audra Strickland in this way. She teaches US Government and History in a public high school, doesn't she? Does she teach her students that it's ok to lie and mislead in political campaigns, and that she does it too? What a great example.
