Mary Pallant leading an impeachment rally

( A video of Rep. Gallegly explaining his support for the surge and maintaining a commitment of troops in Iraq.)

Former candidate for the Democratic nomination Mary Pallant emailed me this message about a rally outside of Rep. Gallegly's office this Wednesday.

I post information from candidates as it comes in. If your campaign is having an event email it to me and it will be posted.

Here is the message from Mary Pallant:

Emergency Rally in support of Rep. Dennis Kucinich's Resolution presented to Congress on June 9th, at 8:40pm Eastern time, asking for the Impeachment of George W. Bush and listing 35 articles of Impeachable offenses.

For the love of our Country and Constitution let us show support and solidarity for this resolution. Impeachment is not a partisan issue, but a fundamental constitutional issue. The charges described in the Resolution clearly represent what our Founding Fathers intended in addressing acts of treason, high crimes and misdemeanors. It is time for our legislatures to take a stand, stand up for the rule of law and stand firm with upholding their constitutional oath "to preserve and protect." Thank you to Rep. Kucinich. These charges are now a part of the Congressional record.

Date: Wednesday, June 11th, 2008
Location: Corner of Westlake Blvd. and Townsgate in Westlake Village (near Rep. Gallegly's office, member of the House Judiciary Committee)
Time: 6pm to 7pm

Please forward this notice to your email lists.

Regardless of Mary Pallant's positions you must admit she is in this for a cause larger than herself. I expect her to keep organizing locally and run again in the future.

UPDATE: Mary Pallant also emailed out an end of campaign season message. Click on continue reading to read it.

Moving Forward

I want all of you to know that I ran my campaign with all my heart and soul. I endeavored to run a campaign of truth, ideas and hope. I ran because of the issues we face today. I ran because I love this Country. And I ran because this was a great year to change direction in this district. We had an opportunity to make history in the 24th in removing the stranglehold of neo-conservatism and ending the reign of Elton Gallegly. I am hopeful we may have an opportunity again.

My passion for Country and Constitution guided my efforts, still inspires me and will always govern my politics and political endeavors. Much like my ancestor, Phineas Beede, who fought for his principles in the American Revolution, I fought for mine and for what was right, for what was just, for what was true. Democracy, freedom and opportunity should be for all Americans, not just the well connected few.

I want to thank all who contributed funds to my campaign. Your dollars were greatly appreciated and used to promote our progressive issues. I want to sincerely thank all of my volunteers and staff for their unfailing support. They phoned countless hours helping to communicate our message on Iraq, the economy, healthcare and the environment. We can all hold our heads high knowing we did everything strategically necessary to win a primary campaign on a limited budget: 28,000 postcards were mailed to high propensity voters, 45 radio spots played on KIST 1340, two full page ads ran in the Acorn, thousands of robo calls went to the high propensity voters who received our postcards. We targeted and stayed on message. We stayed above the fray. We stayed focused on a politics of ideas, hope and truth. We ran this campaign with the highest integrity, the soundest ethics. Our country and community deserve nothing less.

I can say that I was stunned with the results but in the end, either the issues meant little or ballot designation meant more. I was upfront with my designation but a more accurate description would have been 'Agent of Reform' rather than Insurance Agent.

I look forward to resuming my Speaker Series, Action Events, working to promote progressive politics and I will continue to work with Democrats at the local and state level. I certainly wish Marta all the best.

I look forward to working for Barack Obama and promoting his message of hope, ideas and change. I envision a New Deal for the 21st Century rising out of the fruition of our labors as we are the movement.

This is still our moment. Let us not waste the opportunity to end the Iraq occupation. Let us not waver in our stance for single payer healthcare. Let us not support policies that strip the US of jobs, resources and our public education system. As progressives, we must continue to speak truth to power and to denounce those who impose an economic noose around the American people, slowly strangling their hopes and dreams. This is our moment, let us not waste it.

In Solidarity, Gratitude and Peace,

I agree and hope that next time the voters of the 24th will actually investigate candidates before voting. Pallant would have done a lot for this district. I guess now we're left with two candidates that are quite appropriate for each other. It seems human nature usually defaults to mediocrity. That's just been my observation.

As far as the demand for impeachment, brought forward by Dennis Kucinich in Congress this evening, it's about time. Salut to Congressmen Kucinich.

We need to impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney, while also ridding ourselves of the Congressional members that have supported their rape of Iraq under false pretenses and ruinous agenda for this nation. We need to roll back all the legislation and signing statements, restore Habeas Corpus, and wipe our slate of this very dark period in our history.

Impeachment is the only method to knock this out of control train back on it's track. I plan to attend this event with my family. I hope there will be a large crowd there. We need to do this for our children.

This is the right thing to do and I want to thank Mary for rallying people to get President Bush impeached. All people regardless of the political party they belong to need to work together to work together to stop the tearing down of our government and country by the Bush administration.
We have great country, I love living in the USA, it's not perfect here but I do think it's pretty darn good. However if we, together, don't stay on top of our government it will keep on falling apart, as it is now.
Bush has been lying to us, the people he works for, we have been paying him for the mess he got our country into. It's time to fire him and have him go down in history as the president he's turned out to be.
Write to your Congress person and Senators if you can't make it to the rally.
Together we can make a difference.

I prefer to see Bush, Cheney & Rumsfeld on trial at The Hague AFTER they're out of office. To put the spotlight on impeachment now, as the election nears and Bush's lame duck administration is isolated in its Pennsylvania Avenue green zone, is counter productive. An impeachment effort won't mobilize more votes FOR the Dems but may generate more votes at the polls for GOP candidates.

Most importantly, a late-in-the-day impeachment effort will seem to a lot of voters like a preview of what's to come from an angry, vengeful Democratic party if they gain control of government. That's not good.

We can't let Bush and Dick get away with this before they leave office!
Not only will it send the wrong message that you can get away with anything for 8 YEARS, but Bush has bought land in PARAGUAY... yes, it's a NON- EXTRADITION COUNTRY.

Lock them up NOW.

John McCain said today he would continue the economic policies of George W. Bush because they have helped get us where we are today. If McCain wins, I bet when he gets sworn in he say's "I John George W. Bush McCain, the third term, do swear to continue the GOP's all out war against the middle class and the poor, so help me god."

Unfortunately, mary ann, Bush has gotten away with the past 8 years because the Dems need 60 votes in the Senate to move ahead on any legislation. Right now the 2008 fight's not for the Oval Office but for control of legislation. The GOP is determined to hold at least 41 seats. The Dems are very close to breaking that hold but they won't do it if 3% or 4% of Republicans feel threatened after the election by vengeful Democrats.

Your impeachment could jeopardize a veto & filibuster proof Senate and make it difficult for Obama to enact policies. What's more important over the short term...Dem success in 2009 or Bush impeachment in 2008?

This is stupid and a complete waste of time. It is simply a way for Mary Pallant to try and remain relevant after her bruising defeat at the hands of the mighty Marta Jorgensen.

Somebody is right. Why impeach Bush? Bush does not run the Country, Dick Cheney does, Bush is nothing but an empty suit and a little puppet, the puppet masters are Cheney and big oil, the NRA, tobacco companies, Pat Robertson, etc.

Is Mongo now posting as Somebody?

I don't care if "Somebody" thinks the protest is stupid or a waste of time. I care about knowing what is happening outside of Mongo's brain.

Since it would likely be futile to write to Congressman Gallegly, here are the addresses and phone numbers for Congressman Conyers who heads up the House Judiciary Committee where Kucinich's resolution will certainly be soon headed.

Does anyone remember how long it took to impeach Clinton? Was that a productive use of our legislators' time and resources? Don't they now have anything better to do - like work on the economy, the weak dollar - health care maybe?
After Clinton's impeachment, the process did not continue because those involved were seen as the bad guys - just as those who would jump on the impeachment wagon now. And, back in the late 90's the country was sick of and depressed by the impeachment affair, and did not have the stomach to endure the lengthy legal process of attempting to remove President Clinton.

I beg you not to put us through this again. Focus on the presidential election and work for the person that you believe will best serve.

This isn't surprising coming from Pallant. She has been organizing grassroots Democratic events for a few years in Ventura County. She did bring Joe Wilson to talk before.

What is more surprising is that Martinez or Jorgensen haven't said anything since the election.

A) Why would Martinez say anything? She lost a primary after losing a general ... perhaps she is out of politics? Perhaps she is still in ... ok, kind of good point because it would be nice to know where she stands. I guess silence speaks for itself.

B) So now is Marta not going to campaign?

I agree with Leslie. I think that it is too late to push forward on this impeachment business. I, myself, never agreed or supported impeachment because I have always felt that it is a waste of time and resources and that all it does is alienate people and create animosity. Bush and Cheney are going to be gone in just a few months and Congress will have wasted tons of time and money on this. There are much more pressing issues that need to be taken care of now, rather than beginning these long and drawn out hearings that may amount to nothing in the end.

Heather,

I am looking for local Democratic candidates that can organize and attract attention during months when they are not running for office.

It needs to be about more than them. It needs to be about the voters.

I am not talking about this event or about these candidates but in general a candidate needs to start contribute to the party, the community, and our nation BEFORE they ask for our vote.

So, to anyone thinking about running in the future start soon. Come to the picnic, help your local nonprofits, and help candidates that you agree with locally.

I disagree with most of you. The impeachment of Clinton occurred later than we are in the term. If we care about our government, impeachment is part of the Constitution. Should we cut that part out? That's what George Bush does. Further, Elton Gallegly is our local Congressperson. He also sits on the House Judiciary Committee which is where impeachment must start. We're all paying for his Ford Expedition and the gas it guzzles, he needs to work for it. He is the person we write to on this matter. Congress persons in other districts won't even take out letters.

To Somebody:
I'm confused about your adolescent remark concerning Pallant trying to remain relevant. What does that mean? Pallant has been speaking out about impeachment for quite some time. Did your lack of reading and being aware not allow you to notice? In fact, it was on this blog where it was announced that she was endorsed by After Downing Street's David Swanson, a major champion of the impeachment cause. As far as the impeachment issue itself, here's a poll on MSNBC so you can see how relevant it is to folks around the country:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10562904/
It seems that folks in the 24th district are just a little behind what's going on in the rest of the country. I notice a lot of petty immature behavior displayed on this blog. Everyone seems more concerned with their egos rather than the good of the nation and our place in the nation. When I hear comments like these, it seems we are surrounded by third world folks.

Finally, perhaps Jorgensen isn't speaking because she doesn't have the money. That seemed to work for her when she didn't campaign. She seems a perfect match for Gallegly.

Yeah, good display of maturity there, Jurnei:

"Finally, perhaps Jorgensen isn't speaking because she doesn't have the money. That seemed to work for her when she didn't campaign. She seems a perfect match for Gallegly."

My only response to that is, we'll see what happens in November when she faces a real candidate. Her previous race resembled the 3 blind mice tripping over each other. Way to go Democrats!

Somebody,

She wasn't saying Jorgensen would win. Reread her comments.

It doesn't take an expert to predict a Gallegly win.

Thanks for the translation. Seems some folks on here need that to understand. How about we do focus on the economy and hope that the president, that should really be impeached because he's been caught raping this nation, helps us out at the gas pump cause he's a nice guy.

Better yet, how about suggesting this folks turn on CSpan 1 to hear the clerks re-reading the resolution points to impeach Bush and hear where their tax dollars have gone. It's being read right now.

Mea culpa, Brian, but I'm hearing a lot of talk about Jorgensen pulling this thing off. I guess optimism is the name of the game in her campaign. Hell, it worked before...

Optimism? Maybe that will work! George W. Bush claimed he would reach across the aisle, remove Washington's dirty politics and the endless campaign, run an administration of compassion, and more. He ran a campaign of optimism. Why waste money on an election when we can just let him stay in office. Does anyone here remember?

Check the archives pertaining to his election to enlighten on optimism.

If optimism works for you, lets just keep Bush in office, or his twin McCain, with all the rubber stampers that he has working for him. Gallegly would be the top of the list. Heck he doesn't campaign. He doesn't show up at debates. Neither does Jorgensen. Heck, what voter has time to watch a debate or read? We're too busy trying to figure out how we'll pay for gas, worrying about the economy, groceries, worrying about the economy, worrying about who's tapping our phones, worrying about the economy, and what color trinket we'll send to our troops this holiday season to show them we care.

At this point we may need to elect McCain so he can move on his wish to re-instate the draft so folks will wake up.

Jorgensen has no chance ... period. End of sentence. Whereas before Gallegly at least had to put out signs, now the guy has another two years handed to him on a silver platter.

Brian, I agree that local politicians need to focus on the voters locally when they are not running for office. Notice some of the locals who have come when they want money and votes but disappear once they get where they want.

I guess if Mary continues to be active with stuff (even such as this impeachment nonsense), then the party will see that perhaps they made a mistake by not doing more and voting for her. Same goes for Jill.

I love this. Now the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land....is nonsense. Hello fascist state, here comes the 24th district on a silver platter.

Perhaps we can secede from the nation and nominate Jorgensen based on her optimism? Then again, comparing the two do-nothings perhaps we should save our time and allow Gallegly as dictator. From what black hole do these Constitutional experts crawl?

Jill? The candidate that single-handedly got the Soviet Union to admit to invading Afghanistan? That was a whopper. Or how about her words of wisdom for Ronald Reagan? Another whopper. I love these undocumented tall claims. I'm surprised they didn't move the Berlin Wall piece to her house in Oxnard rather than the Reagan Library.

Wow, Jurnei, I guess optimism ain't in your vocabulary. Sorreeeeeee....

what did heather do to help mary or any candidate? absolutely nothing. consider the source, jurnei. she is well known as an idiot and malcontent.

Dear MoFlo:

I am quite optimistic. I would not speak out and work as hard as I do if I didn't think we could get this nation on track with some involvement and education of the public.

Someone has to speak out above the folks that project their egotistical problems rather than focus on serious issues facing our district and nation.

For instance, this post is about impeachment and rallying for impeachment, and you are here questioning my optimism. Are you truly concerned with my optimism? Is that something that you should be concerned with? Doesn't that waste your time?

Clinton was impeached but he lied about somebody sucking. Bush simply sucks!

Gallegly made this opening remark to impeach Bill Clinton.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/special/clinton/stories/galleglytext121098.htm

Personally what Bill Clinton does with his private parts is a matter between him and his wife. But for Gallegly to state these absurd remarks and now remain silent, concerning the volume of lies, is criminal. Clearly Gallegly was acting in a partisan manner without regard for representing this district, and currently he sits silent concerning Bush's ruin of this country both locally and internationally.

He needs to see a crowd of folks outside his office calling for impeachment. We can not allow a president to commit these crimes and go unanswered as this paves the way for more presidential excess. Can you just imagine McCain in office with Gallegly blindly voting his favor?

Thank you Mary Pallant and the patriots in Ventura for putting our democracy and their loyalty to the Constitution before petty partisanship. Those comments about the Congress having more important work to do than impeachment are simply ignorant. There's nothing more important than impeaching government officials who break the law. Important issues like the economy, health care, education, the environment-- all are going nowhere because of Bush's vetoes and signing statements. Congress is accomplishing NOTHING. If impeachment hearings start there will be a possibility of some of these important issues getting addressed. It could take as little as a week for Cheney to resign once hearings start. Just like Nixon, the impeachment won't need to come to a vote, so it doesn't matter that the votes aren't there. But if he doesn't resign, with the tons of evidence on him, the votes will be there. Over 60% of Americans nationwide think Cheney is guilty. Democrats are enabling these crimes, but citizens can tell them to do their duty to impeach. They work for us. Impeachment isn't off the table. WE SET THE TABLE.

Dear "heather thinks she's carville now"

Do you even know me? How do you know what I did and did not do to help get any candidate elected?

I actually DID do a few things that helped a FEW of the candidates, but why would I help any of them extensively when -- as I have said repeatedly on this blog -- I didn't and don't think that any of them had much viability as candidates against Gallegly?

Cynthia Papermaster (hmm?) in response to "Those comments about Congress having more important work to do than impeachment are simply ignorant." ... you are in the minority there, honey. To waste all that tax payer money and Congressional time that could be spent trying to lower gas prices, increase health coverage and end the war is what is ignorant.

Heather is from outerspace. She is against everyone, for no one and just what Osborn's doctor ordered. We need to take up contributions for Heather's therapy before another implosion.

Mary is speaking out to get others off their Lazy-Boy chairs and into discussion about the Bush administration. Heather should be proud if she ever attains 10% of Mary's accomplishments.

I commend Mary Pallant for attempting to "get others off their Lazy-Boy chairs," but I still say that a movement for impeachment is not the most productive way to spend our legislators' time and resources.
Some legislators may jump into the fight (on both sides) as a distraction so they don't have to address the difficult issues ("too hard!") like the weak dollar, immigration, healthcare, and actually DOING something about their concerns over the war. Impeachment hearings will give them lots of time and opportunity to posture and make speeches in an election year, but little will be accomplished.
The economy is now the number one issue on the minds of the voters, and it will not reflect well on the legislators if they waste millions of dollars yacking in hearings instead of working on solutions to our problems.

Of course, Leslie, what you say is a given. Nevertheless, Mary's event adds to the mix and may serve to get one more person involved. With that, we all benefit.

If Pallant is using this event to cull for election volunteers that are anti-war, fine. But let it be known that if the movement actually resulted in impeachment hearings the nation will suffer.

Some will say that oral sex is a good reason for impeachment, but crimes against humanity and misleading the American people are not.

Dear Leslie:

Have you noticed Congress actually able to do something effective over the last years? They haven't. The reason? George Bush. Are you really thinking that they can address the Iraq War with George Bush and Dick Cheney blocking their every move? Did you see the Iraqi Parliament members testifying in Washington on CSpan. They don't want us there, we created the very same militia that we are fighting against, the militia is fighting against us because they don't want us there, they don't want us controlling their oil, they don't want to sign any security statement, and they want us OUT.

The weak dollar you speak about is actually caused by the war. You keep mentioning the economy. Did you actually listen to the points of impeachment? Do you understand every available dollar, plus the amount we are borrowing from a couple of countries goes in total to the Iraq War. What is being built in this nation? Where are we creating green technologies to increase jobs and fuel our economy. Did that $600 actually do anything to help this nation? That was crumbs to easily sway those weak of thought.

You speak about the damage, the economy, while remaining blind to the hurricane that is causing. The solution to our problem is getting rid of the Bush administration. He continues to blatantly move in a bubble without regard to the good of the nation, in defiance of the law with his dishonesty, and only in service of himself and his friends. Our economy has gone steadily downhill since Bush took office. I just can't believe you keep mentioning we should focus on the economy. It would "reflect well" on the legislators if they actually followed through with their oath of office to defend the Constitution.

Jurnei - I respectfully disagree that impeachment proceedings for the next six months will benefit our nation.

I also believe Congress is much more powerful than thay are behaving. We have very few bold leaders. Most do what is politically expedient.

I disagree with you. I believe that Congress should follow the supreme law of the land and condemn the dishonesty of the Bush administration, which includes war crimes.

We should expect bold leaders that have the courage to follow the Constitution, otherwise they should be impeached and we shouldn't be paying them.

Actually this discussion is absurd. The act of impeachment is the law, and there is no discussion. When a president, vice president commits crimes, they are to be impeached. That is quite the end of it.

To say we are too "busy" to follow the law is absurd.

Does anyone remember the name of the suicide squad in "Life of Brian"?

Judean People's Front Crack Suicide Squadron.

Great movie!!

There was great turnout at the rally. Many nice folks. I was quite pleased to see the many car honks cheering on impeachment for George W. Bush.

Jurnei,

If you a few photos send them in and I will post them for you.

Sorry, I didn't think of taking any. It would have been nice to thinking about it now.

There were many homemade signs, a couple with a large sheet that simply said "Impeach", a couple had all 35 stated offenses listed on their signs and were giving out copies to cars stopping at the intersection. Several enthusiastic dogs showed their support :-) A little down the block stood a group of folks with signs calling for the end of the occupation of Iraq and bringing the troops home. The hour went by quickly, but there were folks that stayed longer.

I did notice that most passersby were supportive of impeachment with horn honking and thumbs up.

I had the displeasure of driving by and seeing all the wack jobs out there. It reminded me of a Grateful Dead concert.

This is going nowhere. Leslie is right. Invest your energies into something more productive like supporting your candidates and leave this impeachment garbage to the 911 government conspiracy theorists.

Who needs that damn Constitution anyway, we better focus on the economy. Bright crowd we got here.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An attempt by Rep. Dennis Kucinich to impeach President Bush was kicked into legislative no-man's land by members of his own party Wednesday.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio introduced a resolution to impeach President Bush on Tuesday.

The House voted 251-166 to send the Ohio Democrat's impeachment resolution to committee, a maneuver that allows the Democratic leadership to freeze the measure indefinitely.

You are correct, it was referred to the House Judiciary Committee, which you didn't specify. Your facts were just a little twisted. This is where they vote on impeachment hearings.

"Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich released the following statement upon House action today which approved his motion to refer to committee Articles of Impeachment concerning President George Bush. "The sheer volume of the Articles required a referral to provide Members with an opportunity for review," Kucinich said." You can read more here:
http://www.opednews.com/articles/Kucinich-Commments-on-Refe-by-Dennis-Kucinich-080611-416.html

for more information:
"It is now imperative that the Judiciary Committee begin a review of the 35 Articles. I will be providing supporting documentation to the committee so that it can proceed in an orderly manner. The weight of evidence contained in the Articles makes it clear that President Bush violated the Constitution and the US Code as well as International law.

And:
"U.S. Rep Robert Wexler, (D-Fla.), said Tuesday he will co-sponsor a resolution introduced Monday night by Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich calling for the impeachment of President George W. Bush for lying to Congress and the public to win support for an invasion of Iraq five years ago." from http://www.pubrecord.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=117&Itemid=16
Which includes:
"Steny Hoyer, the Democratic House Majority Leader, told reporters Tuesday that the 35 articles of impeachment Kucinich read to his colleagues over a four-hour period will be read again into the Congressional Record Tuesday evening by the House clerk.

Kucinich will then "rise and make a motion that the Impeachment Resolution be referred to committee, a news release issued by the Congressman's office said......
Democrats would consider initiating impeachment proceedings if the president authorizes a military strike against Iran without first consulting Congress, according to a May 8 letter sent to President Bush by House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers."

Elton Gallegly sits on the House Judiciary Committee. Has he made any comments on this? It would be wonderful to hear his response.

Jurnei,

At least you know there are some members of the House that back you up.

Did any reporters show up?

I am sure that the House Judiciary Committee will be get right to work on this resolution… Just as soon as they finishing debating Kucinich’s resolution to impeach Dick Cheney that was sent to them last November.

Just because many people don't think it is the correct choice politically doesn't mean the law doesn't have remedies for the law breaking that has gone on in the Bush/Cheney government.

Dennis Kucinich is desperate for publicity and hopes of relevancy. His runs for president have proven this time and time again.

Congress will not act on his resolution because they realize it's just Dennis being Dennis.

And what about Robert Wexler? Is he running for president?

No, just a crazy liberal, pandering to the far left.
