The Tony Strickland Campaign sent out an email letting people know their candidate was recently on CNBC to talk about his alternative energy. Click here to see the video.
I am impressed with the level of skill the Strickland campaign runs. It seems like they have something to try to get media attention every week or influence insider opinion about the campaign.
If you see a story I might have missed please email it to me. I don't mean to slight Hannah-Beth Jackson if there are news stories in the Santa Barbara region of the district.

Tony Strickland was recently interviewed by CNBC for a program called "Powering the Planet" which focuses on alternative energy sources. CNBC approached Tony for their wave energy segment because of his role as Vice President of GreenWave Energy Solutions, a company dedicated to harnessing the power of ocean waves, reducing our dependence of foreign oil and creating a cleaner, smarter energy future for California.
The following piece appeared on CNBC last week and is now available for viewing on the CNBC website. View the short video HERE.

You would think after so many years in the public limelight Strickland would be able to string a single sentence together without screwing it all up.
He is a phone, uneducated, and trying to pull one more hoax over the voters. Strickland is no PG&E. One generates electricy, the other is a fraud.
He is a phony, uneducated, and trying to pull one more hoax over the voters. Strickland is no PG&E. One generates electricy, the other is a fraud.
Perhaps the interviewer merely cut out the part about doing it for the good of the environment and the working families of California or maybe Tony's entire philosophy was wrapped up in his 10 second whine about the need to fast-track his faulty proposal.
As of 7/10/08 GreenWave had still not corrected the deficiencies in its application, according to FERC.
Could Greenwave and a slew of other alternative energy startups be gaming the system by filing preliminary applications simply to hold places at the head of the AE permit line and prevent more able and aggressive applicants from moving ahead? Even PG&E seems to have no plans to actually use their permit...only to sit on it for the next three years.
Such cynics! Not a word of surprise he was plugging his business? You weren't impressed CNBC is calling on him as an expert?
Just giving you a tough time.
To both of you:
Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog.
I've noticed an unusual switch by many former anti-environmentalists and conservative politicians over to the "alternative energy" industry by forming new companies and I have to wonder what's really going on behind the scenes. Is it: 1) They've really changed their ways; 2) They're just in it for the money; 3) They're in it to place a stranglehold on the growth of alternative energy; 4) They're doing it to change their spots from red to green for pure political reasons, or 5) All of the above?
My guess is these politicos are being advised by someone or some group to go this route for political reasons, with the added benefits of a possibly rich payday.
I also sense a gaming of the system: these preliminary permits don't allow firms like GreenWave to actually do anything but instead act basically as long term Jump-To-The-Head-Of-The-Line passes that allow holders to stake a claim on a portion of the ocean, even if they don't intend to use it. Like airwave licenses, these permits can be sold off for whatever price legitimate energy producers are forced to pay.
Brian got it right. Tony's campaign is busy capturing the spotlight while Hannah-Beth is nowhere to be seen. Does she even have a campaign manager?
gs, a contact of mine in Mendocino told me that the oceans were basically divvied up in a sort of backroom deal by the major players in wave technology. GreenWave is not one of them. They are an unknown in the energy arena and don't develop their own technology, thus their permit application was held up until they answered more questions for FERC. But FERC has been sitting on it a long, long time.
Chevron was previously interested in that spot but pulled out.
Yes indeed she does, Mongo, and he's pretty savvy. They're busy putting together a really strong grassroots organization. The voters have seen plenty of her. But thank you for your kind concern.
GreenWave has applied for a slice of the ocean off Humboldt county, next to PG&E's and OPT's larger slices. These preliminary permits do NOT allow the firms to do any testing, building or connections but merely hold their exclusive claims on the ocean for as long as their permits are pending...the trick is to keep the permits pending until they become valuable enough to sell to oil firms, real energy firms, fishing concerns, etc and one way to do that is to keep providing incomplete and faulty applications.
These firms may be legit...or they may simply be waiting to cash in...at the consumer's expense.
Marie,
Well, he better get savvier. Time's-a-wastin' and Strickland has set the tone so far.
I realize things don't really kick into high gear until after summer, but, you gotta admit, HBJ's been virtually invisible thus far.
Yes, he certainly has with all the front-page bad press he's gotten concerning questionable ballot designations, nefarious campaign contributions and out-of-control employees. Wow. I'm wondering what other blunder will come along next.
Tony still has to face the charge that he's a Bush era Republican who's marched lock step with the NeoInsiders for all these years. He's been there all along, supporting the scandal makers and the bad policies. That sort of association is bringing down GOP politicos all over the map, from red state Senate & House incumbents to small town Republican dogcatchers.
So far Tony's not been caught in the spotlight of those charges but he will.
Marie,
I think there are many anxious Democrats wondering when Hannah-Beth Jackson will unleash the promised most expensive state senate race campaign ever. I know she has been putting together a campaign organization but the anticipation of seeing the two top organizations in Ventura County really campaigning is exciting to many including me.
Maybe after labor day?
Yeah, Marie, I guess Hannah-Beth is taking the "if I hide out long enough maybe people won't say anything bad about me" approach. At least Tony is not afraid to put himself out there and talk about the issues.
Jackson must be trying to scrape together a few bucks, or something. She's certainly been doing a good job of hiding from the public eye.
Interesting. I haven't seen Strickland anywhere but I have seen Hannah-Beth all over the place at every event I've attended lately. She's a great campaigner.
Maybe some folks need to get off their computers and out of the house more.
She's certainly raking in the endorsements. Where is Strickland's endorsement listing? When are they going to post it? Maybe after Labor Day?
Marie,
Maybe she should have photos taken or post videos of her speaking to echo the message past the people in the room.
I have never laid eyes on Strickland. Does he make it out from Moorpark often?
Marie,
I've already been to 6 events that Tony has spoken at, including the one with Mitt Romney in Westlake. So, don't lecture me from your keyboard about getting off my computer and out of the house. How many Jackson events have you been to so far?
I'm all over this County and other counties every day of the week volunteering my time, attending fund-raisers, soliciting contributions, and running a family business, in addition to my regular day job. Most of my posting is done at night when I have a few moments to clear my head and share my ideas. This is a hobby for me that I like very much and find relaxing.
Why do you do it, pray tell?
I'm obviously a masochist, Mongo. :-)
Funny that Marie wants to take Strickland to task for his ballot designation but is strangely silent as to HBJ's.
She, HBJ, teaches one class and says she's an educator. I guess she's not to proud of spending 90 per cent of her professional life as a divorce lawyer.
I can understand that though, considering what I heard from a few of her past clients about her legal performance.
Voter,
So are you claiming that they are both inaccurate or distort the truth?
How long has Tony Strickland been an alternative energy executive? Is his main task for them to lobby government to approve their projects? Maybe he should have put down lobbyist? He has done that for multiple people or groups.
