To encourage young people to get involved in local politics I am challenging all of the campaigns to admit people 21 and under to their fundraisers for free if they bring another young person with them.
All campaigns say they are open to young people. But not every young person just wants to work phone banks or walk precincts without going to the higher profile events.
I will post the answers from the state senate candidates first.
What do you say?

what does that mean?
what does that mean?
Brian, If any person under the voting age would like to attend one of my fundraisers, or work on my campaign, please, know that it is available to all Simi Valley junior or high school students. I would love for them to get involved. My phone number is (805) 231-2497 Just call, we will put them ro work, or just invite them to the campaign fundraisers.(no drinking allowed for minors)
Thanks Barbra! Now let's hear from the other campaigns too.
Brian,
I believe, you're your right on target here! I think to many registered voters walk into the voting booth for the first time not truly understanding the power that is in thier hand. It's very important for a young person to understand the democratic system of America before voting. Working a campaign for a TRUE politician (notice I highlighted TRUE), would give them a start to understanding America's democratic voting system. It would also hopefully get the young voter to value the power of his/her vote.

Brian,
Tony Strickland already does this. He treated everybody to dinner who helped with his welcome group at the Hyatt fundraiser with Mitt Romney. Strickland gives back to the interns and youth volunteers and called everyone personally to thank them for helping.
As far as training youth, there is a new TAR group meeting every Thursday in TO at the VCCR HQ's across from the Lakes in TO from 7-9 pm from now until the election. The Teenage Republicans of the Conejo is for youths 12-19 who respect conservative values. There are 2 guest speakers every week on political topics of their choice. The kids learn political vocabulary terms (partisan races, non-partisan elections, FPCC, quorum, constituents, vetting, Central Committees, etc.) There are handouts with info on political organizations and websites, news stations, and blogs. I believe yours is highlighted, Brian!
There are mentors working one-on-one for the last hour t ready to answer questions about how american politics work, and how local government is run, and how americans participate. There is no fee, of course. It is on a drop-in basis. Kids can come for one or a few, or all of the sessions. They are learning that our representational form of democracy is NOT a spectator sport.
The TARs have one project assignment: SB 1322. They are learning to read a bill and to follow that bill through the California legislature on the public website www.sen.ca.gov.
SB 1322 has already passed through committees, and will most likely be voted into law very quietly this summer. Brian, this will interest you, as a public school teacher. This law will amend current statute by removing the prohibition that bars communists from teaching in California. It is illegal now to be a communist and be a public school teacher in this state. The part of the current law that states that teachers cannot advocate communism or advocate the overthrow of the government, will remain. It is expected that the Governor will veto this bill by August 31st. But, it is also possible that the bill could be overturned by the legislature after his veto. It would be very, very rare to have that happen, but it still is a possibility, but would have to be accomplished before September 30th.
I am a little confused by what you were saying about SB 1322. Is the local Republican youth organization taking a stand on the issue?
The law seems like an anachronism as far as banning teachers from joining a party that is destroyed globally besides for a few isolated dictatorships.
Is there a problem with Communist Party USA members in the Conejo Valley? I understand when many communist organizations were actually agents of Moscow but being that the CPUSA is legal to join why the fear that teachers are going to be joining the party that very few people in the US are interested in at all.
The Cold War ended. The young people in the program were born after the USSR called it quits.
But being that the law has few impacts I don't see why many people would fight about it one way or another.
When was the last enforcement of this law made?
What other parties should we ban public employees from joining?
I say ban the Natural Law Party. They always seemed suspect to me.
Just kidding. NLP please don't send complaint emails or meditate on bringing a better sense of humor to me.
