( A local Barack Obama supporter with local Barack Obama organizer Sandy Emberland. He said he bought the shirt at Urban Outfitters I think.)
I attended an organizational meeting of Barack Obama supporters tonight at the UFCW Union Hall in Camarillo. By my count there was about one hundred supporters there from across the 24th congressional district and beyond.
The focus of the meeting was to train volunteers to register voters and to organize voter registration events. If you are interested in getting involved you can leave your name and email address here as a comment or you can go to the campaign's website and search for local events to help with.
The Ventura County Fair is coming up and the Barack Obama supporters have many plans to make it exciting for this year. They are looking for a few more volunteers to work in the booth if you are interested.
The amount and intensity of volunteers this long before the election is inspiring. The only local John McCain news I have to share is that there is a high priced fundraiser in Los Angeles in late August. If you see anything from local John McCain supporters let me know.
I have heard that Republicans are out there registering voters. Has anyone seen this recently? If you do send in photos to post.
Thanks to the great volunteers who organized this event. I am looking forward to reports from the fair.
Sandy, will you email me some photos of the registration events your group is running?

( I didn't want to distract people from the training by taking pictures from the front of the audience, but as I looked around I saw a mix of Democratic Party regulars and people new to local politics.)
( Here is a video I took at the last meeting of a former Republican who has come around to support Barack Obama for president.)

Brian, we have a golden opportunity to continue the groundswell of support for Obama and keep people motivated throughout the election cycle, into building a grassroots base for future campaigns. It is energizing to see so many new faces and also Dems who are activists in their local clubs showing up and volunteering for Obama.
I highly recommend Obama supporters find a Platform meeting this weekend to attend - let the campaign know what YOU think.
Everyone should be able to find an activity they are comfortable with - whether it is registering voters in front of a store, at the mall, at a senior residence, phone calls to swing states or traveling to swing states. Personally I have been making appointments at Senior facilities and registering seniors who have moved in and not yet registered. We also check the registration information and encourage those who are registered to become permanent vote by mail voters.
There is something for everyone - checkout www.my.barackobama.com for local opportunities.
Thanks, Brian, for your postings.
What a joke. Sandy Emberland never organized anything but putting a bumper sticker on her car. Deborah Dent and Roni Flowers are the ones doing the organizing for Obama. Deborah Dent should be the one going to the convention as a delegate not Sandy Emberland.
She has been organizing voter registration drives in senior citizen homes.
I always hear that its mostly young people supporting Obama so I'm glad to see that Seniors like Mrs. Emberland are getting involved too. Is she only organizing registration at the Senior home where she lives or is she going out to other Senior Citizen homes too? I'd like to help if I can.
Today McCain and the GOP blocked efforts by democrats to lower the price of gasoline at the pump by releasing a small amount of oil from the strategic reserve, which is at 100% capacity, On the orders of the big oil companies that fund the GOP at drivers expense, McCain and the republicans used procedural tricks to block lower gasoline prices for Americans. This is why need Obama as President, someone who will work for us and not the oil companies!
As a matter of fact, I am a senior at Agoura High School and thanks to Sandy Emberland's voter registrations at various public events (including mentioned senior centers), I was finally able to get involved without having to actually vote. Sandy equipped me with the most powerful and contagious tool of all--the ability to register and inspire voters, not to mention in a moderate and kind fasion. As a result, I got my friends involved, and now we are planning to register voters at our own school come September. Sandy, not only works herself volunteering for the campaign, but has instigigated a revolution of a youth chain reaction that is far more powerful and widespread than any single event. Bumper sticker and all, Sandy is an asset to the cause (while keeping a polite and mature demeanor).
Shadee,
I think I met you last night at the training. Thanks for coming out to the event. I agree, this isn't about one person but about us inspiring each other to change our government.
Never for a moment hesitate to explain your thoughts on this campaign. I myself was inspired to support Barack Obama largely because of a young man I know that just graduated.
Brian that's exactly, why this campaign, has caught the imagination of the American people in the way it has. Senator Obama's main point, is that he cannot changes things all by himself but that together we as Americans can participate, in our own governance in a way we haven't in 40 plus years, and that will bring about and end to the Occupation of Iraq, the start of the changing over of electricity production from dependence on Carbon based fossil fuels, to solar and wind based systems, that use resources we cannot exhaust and don't pollute to generate power. We can provide Healthcare to all Americans, not just the young, healthy and wealthy. To restore a sense of commonality among Americans so that we would never stand idly by while our neighbors lose their jobs and homes, fearing that we might be next. To build an America where truly no child is left without an opportunity, to be all they can be, whether it be as a soldier, a professional, or a blue collar worker, or even the president of the United States.
Barrack knows that he is not the cure for what's wrong with America, Americans are the cure for what's wrong with America, and his campaign, is a promise to lead, the rest of us Americans, to the point where we have hope and create change, one person at a time all across America.
As this campaign progresses, Obama, as I predicted so accurately, is showing his naivete, with regard to foreign policy matters. His comments about the tearing down of the Berlin Wall are a classic example. His memory of how this came about are in clear conflict with reality.
He attributed it to international pressure, seemingly implying that the United Nations had something to do with it when, in fact, it was Ronald Reagan's forceful speeches and so-called "cowboy attitude" that really was the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of this historic event.
Obama needs to re-read his history a little bit. He is making statements that, while they play well to his audience in Europe, are a mischarcacterization, at best, of the events leading up to the fall of communism in Europe.
Flamo,
It is McCain that got wrong the recent history of Iraq and he got it wrong when he said that Al Queda is going to Iran for leadership.
But to refute your point directly it was international pressure. It included the Solidarity movement and Pope John Paul II. Barack Obama didn't say it was The United Nations. Stop imagining things.
Brian,
Obama certainly implied in his speech in Germany that the United Nations would play a more extensive role in resolving international conflict just as they did in such monumental events as the fall of the Berlin Wall. He really must be dreaming here.
All the United Nations does currently is pass meaningless resolutions that nobody pays any attention to, especially rogue nations like Iran and North Korea. They are a worthless organization when it comes to resolving international disputes, reducing nuclear weapons development, halting belligerent actions by aggressive nations (like Iraq under Hussein, etc.).
In reference to the photo above. I keep seeing young leftists wearing Obama shirts that have the same look like the Che Guevara T-shirts and wall paintings you see in places like Cuba and Venezuela.
Check out the photo with the kid wearing a Progress T-Shirt. Doesn't it look like the Obama campaign is using Che style shirts to attract followers?
Obama was very popular in social democrat Europe.
Go Figure!!!
He was also very popular in Israel. Go figure!

I guess having a Jewish derived name helps a bit.
