VCRCC controlled by the Christian Coalition? I don't think so. They may be conservative, but do you really see them harping on social issues like the CC does? They are a pretty non-sectarian group. Have you ever taken the time to talk to the members? Not all of them, are particularly relgiious and even the ones that are keep it to themselves. The way I see it, they just like Republicans to act like Republicans and know that acting more like Democrats is not the way to win elections. If people are really turned off by this, they are either Democrats or need to swtich parties.

I don't think it is controlled by the Christian Coalition either. However, the "act like a Republican" is misused way too much. Potential Republicans come in all ages, shapes, sizes, colors, etc. It isn't the party for only aging white men - sorry!

The problem lies in these candidates are about a cause and not kids.

I was completely outspent in my re-election bid by 3 other candidates who received member communication privalages and the dreaded DMH factor. they spend $45k to my $6k while they only raised $15k between them. One candidate raised nothing, reported nothing and was included in 4-5 mailers.

Get smart Conejo, if it says DMH or 'Tax Payers Alliance' vote for who is not listed.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. That's why I made such an issue of Hannah-Beth Jackson receiving tobacco money from a State Senator's campaign funds. It's definitely not a transparent process at this point and I believe there's a lot that could be done to make it better.

By the way, I happen to support Mike, but I stand by my comments on transparency in campaign financing.

The person mentioned Tina who had her 10-year-old daughter terrorized by the Ventura County Sheriff as a "habitual truant" at the CVUSD School Attendance Review Board. I told the person that I did not feel that I was very telegenic and there are probably thousands of other parents with similar experiences who could present their experiences better to a TV audience.

Hannah-Beth Jackson does not solicit money from tobacco companies. Tony Strickland does. He has, all told, solicited almost $85,000 from the makers of these carcinogenic products. He then voted against two bills which made it harder for minors to buy cigarettes.

He took thousands directly from energy companies like Enron and then voted against capping outrageous electrical bills during the energy crisis.

He has taken thousands from horse racing interests and sponsored multiple pieces of legislation for them, including one vetoed by Gov. Davis for "unacceptable expansion of gambling in California."

God only knows how much additional "laundered" (Mongo's crazy definition) money he's taken from these industries. But give me enough time and I can find out.

Now back to the topic: CVUSD is a wonderful school district with test scores which are the envy of most other school districts in the state. They are fiscally responsible and are making efforts to consolidate schools which are losing enrollment. I find it ironic when those who decry this situation also scream about giving the schools any additional funding.

If we continue to chronically underfund our public schools, we will see much more of this happening around the state.

The benefactor that Mr. Dunn is no doubt referring to one Dr. Paul Finman of Idaho. One of Mr. Finman's hobbies has been to send harassing, insulting and threatening emails to me and Tom Mullens for over a year now. At least one of those emails contained threats that rose to a level requiring it to be reported to the VC Sheriff's Department and the FBI. As you will see when you read the emails, I think Mr. Finman has issues that go beyond just the usual political banter between opposing parties and candidates.

Why did Mr. Finman focus on me and Tom Mullens? It goes back to 2006, when we formed a PAC that ran ads in the newspaper, opposing Mr. Dunn and his running mates for school board. For exercising our first amendment rights and availing ourselves of the political process, we have been hounded ever since by Mr. Finman, by both email and phone.

I imagine the purpose was to intimidate us into silence. After all, who wants to volunteer to get involved with local politics if you're going to be on the receiving end of this kind of behavior for years after an election. A school board election.

Now Mr. Dunn is bragging about the pile of money he has received from this individual, and how he and the VCRCC intend to use it.

Our response? Tom Mullens and I will be sending copies of all emails and police reports to the press. We'll also be sending copies to Brian to publish here.

The public has a right to know that the financiers of Mr. Dunn, and the VCRCC, engage in this type of behavior. By accepting his money, they are condoning it.

Thanks for the effort. Money laundering sounds like a criminal charge and I don't think that should be used lightly. Bloggers shouldn't just announce people are breaking the law. I know that wasn't your intention.

If a corporation intends a candidate to receive money by passing it through someone else that seems really wrong.

I don't see the evidence that tobacco companies were intending to do that when they donated to senators before either of the two candidates declared or starting running.

If you have proof of something like that please let me know.

Otherwise, back to talking about CVUSD.

During past elections, this organization has endorsed Beaubion, Didio and Jackie Irwin (TO
City Council-a Republican). Even though these are non-partisan offices, all of these individuals are an embarassment to the Democrats-Yikes!!

I no longer donate to this local group but instead send money to the national orgaanization.

I find it disturbing that the most important qualification for school board member seems to be political party affiliation. Facing serious realities such as declining enrollment and declining state funding is a no-win situation for board members. Party politics doesn't change that.

The argument is that campaign donations influence government policy.

The only argument you might have is that taxing cigarettes would cause the government to want to promote smoking. But there aren't signs of our state government encouraging smoking.

There is a common denominator between the CVUSD, Pleasant Valley School Board, Camarillo Unified PAC (Unification Effort) and the VC Board of Education. The campaign flyers are the same, the funding/financials are the same, the agenda is the same. The common denominator is the Strickland office. Your $$$ is paying for all this.

The charter school holding company, Charter Resource Services, makes donations to the Strickland campaign.

For my stock trading, there seems to be an uncanny correlation between my email correspondence with my stock brokers and market movements. I made a very nice gain on stock symbol EDO and a couple hundred thousand dollars on CREE. Other trades have seemed unusually lucky. I would not be surprised if someone in an intelligence agency is selling my stock picks to George Soros or a large mutual fund, and this pumps the stock price. Whatever the case, I've made several hundred thousand dollars, and I feel I should recognize Tom Mullens for what I believe has been his important help.

I lead a happy and modest life, wear shoes from Wal-Mart, buy clothes from JC Penneys, and I drive a modest Ford. I am having some trouble thinking of good ways to use my large and continuous stream of cash. In addition to supporting political causes, my wife is sponsoring eleven very positive robotics teams (see attached picture) and I'm awarding scholarships to high school seniors in Idaho's five northern counties that are majoring in science/engineering. Two words for this guy - cuckoo, cuckoo...

Laura Winchester.....Dr. Paul Finman who does live in Idaho was an abused parent. His child went before Dr. Linda Calvin at the student attendance review board. Dr. Calvin threatened to remove Paul's child from the home and place the child in foster care. After I got elected another parent asked me for help complaining about the same threat of having her child taken from her.

Imagine if you are a mother and the state threatens to take your children from you?

Paul's child now attends MIT where Paul received his PHD in Nuclear Physics. Paul was deeply, deeply hurt by his experience with the CVUSD. Since his treatment, he was donated money to individuals who want to improve the public schools and stand up for parent rights. Paul checked my voting record. Felt that I was a strong advocate for the rights and wishes of parents and so decided to help finance my reelection. He is a blessing to the parents who normally have a great deal of difficulty raising more that 2,000 dollars for a school board campaign.

Dr. Paul Finman is a world class nuclear physics with a state department top secret security clearance. I believe he still owns a home in Newbury Park. Also one in Idaho and New Hampshire.

If Dr. Linda Calvin had not threatened to take his child from him you never would have heard from him.

I'm not Senator Gramm, but I happen to agree with him. This is not the first economic downturn we've had, nor will it be the last. Buck up and make the necessary changes in your household budget and personal finances to deal with it. It's not the end of the world.
