( Joe Biden on stage with Barack Obama Saturday.)

Were you surprised by Barack Obama picking Joe Biden? I was surprised. It was funny though that the text messages started going out at 3AM.

I think he is a safe choice because of his background and because of his foreign policy experience. He reinforces Barack Obama's messages in some ways but not in others.

Obviously, selecting someone that has served as long as Joe Biden has doesn't easily reinforce the message of change. But let's be honest. Republican concern trolls would be shouting about inexperience if he selected someone with less political experience.

It is clear that they have not always agreed. Again the attack parrots and concern trolls will be pointing this out, too. But disagreement between candidates isn't something new. If he picked Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton, or Bill Richardson they would be parroting pretty much the exact same things.

I think Joe Biden is a man of decency and a solid pick.

He has a humble life story and can connect with middle class voters. He has strong family values and is forceful in debates. I watched many of the primary debates during the primary and Joe Biden is very impressive on stage. His knowledge about foreign policy and issues goes back decades and reassures me that foreign policy will be closer to matching my values under a Barack Obama administration.

A major theme of Barack Obama's campaign has been change. Those changes include moving past the types of politics created by people like Bush, Cheney, and Rove. The policies that Barack Obama supports are a big change from the policies that Bush and McCain have supported.

As far as winning the election goes he could help with some demographics. He is from Scranton Pennsylvania and he is Catholic. The comments towards the end of this story about his faith explain why. As a senator he isn't poor but I have seen his net worth reported to be about $300,000. That makes him much closer to the average American than most senators. He also is more commonly known than I first thought because of his long career.

I don't mind he doesn't agree with Barack Obama on everything. It shows Barack Obama is willing to reach out to former adversaries to solve problems.

Do you remember George W. Bush's team after 2000 wouldn't even hire people that supported McCain? That is the type of leadership that has made his presidency into a huge failure.

Like every politician he has his flaws. He has said some really funny comments that I am sure Republicans will continue to point out. But before you jump on those comments you might want to remember John McCain has told some awful jokes and has quotes that either were taken out of context or were in very poor taste.

The head of the Associated Press, who interviewed for a job with John McCain's campaign, that picking Joe Biden shows some weaknesses and I agree to an extent. But it also shows he is trying to get people on his team not just to win the election but to govern our country.

Most VP picks don't change people's vote. But did this pick change your vote? Are you more or less willing to support the ticket because of it?

While Biden has a ton of much needed experience, Obama has surrounded himself with numerous free-speaking hotheads (campaign workers, pastors, etc) that adding another person who speaks wildly and has a very high opinion of himself may prove to be a problem.

Evan Bayh would have been a better pick...or Kaine...

Now it's McCain's turn...

Here's hoping he picks someone to add much needed fire to his campaign...

Look what the Republicans have done to America in the last eight years. The Republicans have damaged our Constitution, economy, military, and good name in the world. How could a real American not be angry.

John’s Wealthy explains his Reasoning:

Cindy and John McCain have a total of not 7 or 8 but at least 13 luxury residences from Virginia through Arizona to California worth at over $ 15M. Some of the residences are for personal use and others for investment purposes.

3 - Luxury residences on Hidden Valley Ranch Road, Yavapai County, AZ

3- Luxury condos at Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85016

1- Three-bedroom luxury high-rise condo in Arlington, Va.,

3- Luxury residences in La Jolla, Calif., overlooking Pacific Ocean.

1- A spaceship design style luxury residential residence in Phoenix, Arizona

2- Beachfront complexes in Coronado, Calif.

Not bad for a former POW and currently on a Government disability pension. According to John “Rich should be defined by possession of a home, a good job…“ Based on that definition John is filthy rich. In 2000, he criticized tax cuts proposed by presidential candidate George W. Bush that they would benefit the rich “at the expense of middle-class Americans.

But he now believes that there is no distinction between the rich and the middle class. When it comes to taxes they are all need to be treated the same. Who and how are we going to pay the Chinese, the Japanese and Indians that we have heavily borrowed from? Who and how are the deteriorating roadways, bridges, schools, airports in the country going to be fixed? With the shrinking industrial base, deficit balance of trade and deficit Federal budget how is the country going to recover? I was fooled in 2000, 2004 and can’t be fool in 2008. Shame on You! We need Ross Perot to give John a lesson on Economics and Fina

I don't know if you remember Paul but Mccain has said many wild statements, crass jokes, and racial epithets. I don't think Biden is that big mouthed in comparison.

Another big-mouthed politician who loves to hear himself bloviate - blah, blah, blah...

The difference is he is talking about America and policy instead of John McCain's crass jokes, wild statements, and racial epithets.

But the "liberal" media hides many of his comments.

Joe Biden cares about all of us.

I remember Biden serving in the Senate for many years and he was completely bald on top. Those hair plugs seem to have really taken root.

Those plugs matter this race, because he has to pretend he's not so old. Being picked by the youth candidate, his age is already killing the young people's excitement about the election.

Next to most of you I am pretty young and I am telling you young people aren't losing excitement because Joe Biden was picked. Who did you think he was going to pick that would excite younger people?

Uh, maybe Tim Kaine. Duh...

While McCain has said some moronic comments over 50+ years of public service...he was ELECTED to run...Repubicans have overlooked that and decided he's their man...but Obama SELECTED Biden...so this pick is a reflection of Obama's judgment...this pick will hurt him in the end...

Why not google Chelsea Clinton and John McCain and try to defend McCain from his vicious and disgusting attack before you go after Biden again?

I agree that Republicans seem to overlook many things.

Let me toss out a hypothesis:

Biden was the choice of both Obama AND Clinton, as a non-starter for the 2016 Dem nominee for pres (he'll be too old) and/or Biden has agreed to take one of the due-to-be vacant SCourt seats, thus allowing Clinton to either step in sooner or run as Obama's VP in 2012.

Clinton received a quid pro quo (from Obama and the DNC)for backing Obama as she did and my guess its a clear shot at the White House in 2016.

I googled the Clinton/McCain statement...I agree uncalled for...but you seem to lack the understanding of context...McCain has been elected by his party...Obama chose Biden, someone who he should have known better than to chose...and many of Biden's "jokes" have used 9/11 and Indian accents as punchlines...McCain's punchlines are Janet Reno...

...and while McCain's joke was uncalled for and rude, his jokes are not about making fun of a tragic day in US history or an entire group of people...

Joe Biden voted for the war in Iraq too!!! I am not voting for anyone who had anything to do with that farce! I will be voting for Bob Barr and would urge everyone else to do the same.
