Political Courage Test

( Another blog called Hannah-Beth Jackson out for having her picture taken with Firefighters in uniform and then using it on her campaign website . That other blog said that laws were broken. I wonder where the outrage will be over this photo from Elton Gallegly's campaign website? This photo or the other photo isn't a top concern for me. I understand it was just a political attack. The state budget seems much more important.)

Both Rep. Lois Capps and Rep. Elton Gallegly have not turned in their political courage test to Project Vote Smart. Call their offices and ask them to answer the questions.

Here are the phone numbers:

Elton Gallegly: (805) 497-2224
Lois Capps: (805)985-6807

Neither of them has a tough competitor thus far so it shouldn't take to much courage to return it. After you call post what their response is to your request.

Call me a cynic but if Rep. Gallegly doesn't address the Iraq war on his campaign website I doubt he is interested in answering other questions. Maybe somebody will stop by the Ventura County Fair booth and film him as they ask questions...

Is Rep. Gallegly really afraid of giving Marta Jorgenson an opening to attack him or is he just not interested in discussing Iraq?

I find it odd that there are pictures on Elton Gallegly's campaign site with no explanation or caption. Anyone know what this picture is all about? What's up with the pony?

Feel free to caption it yourself.

Here is the photo that upset a few local Republicans:

Now that is pretty hypocritical. Have a fit over Hannah-Beth's website yet give Elton a free pass.

The "other blog" was incorrect. As a seated Assembly member and public official when the photo was taken many years ago, Hannah-Beth had every right to have her photo taken with firefighters at an event. It wasn't a set up shot. (I think it also apppeared in a publication earlier.) As such it wasn't improper to use it anywhere.

I have this information directly from a spokesman from the County Firefighters' union. These guys know the law.

Thus it is fine for Mr. Gallegly to use his photo, too.

Marie,

I don't know the legalities of taking photos with public employees and then using them in a campaign. That being said I highly doubt that Hannah-Beth Jackson or Elton Gallegly would make a mistake in using photos on their campaign sites and I am confident they know the laws on this issue.

I was mostly pointing at the selective outrage.

When's the last time Gallegly held a real job??

Where are the pictures of Elton Gallegly with REAL working americans....who have to pay the taxes he and the other congressmen are throwing away, a $100 billion a throw....??

You mean this rant in June by Stephen Frank?

"1. Political activity

Distribution by sheriff's department personnel of postcards opposing chief justice's reelection qualified as "political activity," within meaning of §§ 3201 and 3206 prohibiting officers from engaging in any political activity while in uniform and using public funds to promote partisan position, even though chief justice had not yet declared candidacy for reelection. California Common Cause v. Duffy (App. 4 Dist. 1987) 246 Cal.Rptr. 285, 200 Cal.App.3d 730. Elections 311.2(1)

Local peace officers may not wear their official uniforms while privately employed as private investigators, private patrol operators or repossessors, except that in other private employment situations, the official uniform may be worn only if wearing it involves no conflict of interests, unlawful misrepresentations or other violations of law. 65 Op.Atty.Gen. 631, 12-30-82.

West's Ann. Cal. Gov. Code § 3206, CA GOVT § 3206

In other words, this appears to be a violation of the California Government Code by Hannah Beth Jackson and the firefighter. This photo can be found at her political web site.

This is not the first time that Hannah Beth has been involved in a law violation. While an Assembly member she passed legislation that allowed a private group to get away with over charging the State. More about that in a few days.

The question now is how soon will she take down the photo? How soon will the proper authorities open up an investigation?

Will she fire her web master for this violation? Frankly Speaking, she needs to speak up and take action."

The only thing the Republicans can come up with is Hanna-Beth Jackson had her picture taken with a firefighter?

Bring on your VCRCC district attorney! LOL! F'n weasels...

Actually, the Republicans don't need to attack Hannah-Beth Jackson. She's doing just fine self-destructing on her own.

"I am shocked, shocked . . !"

The two candidates and the police and fire personnel involved all appear to be breaking the law or (at least) knowingly violating ethics of their professions.

There will, of course, be a full investigation! (Wink, wink; nod, nod.)

Notice how the chief of police has his hands in his pockets? It's because he knows it's wrong to have a Congressman hugging him. All of Elton's photos convey a message of out of touch excitement. The American people don't see a cause for celebration over with the job of Republican's like Elton Gallegly.
