The California Association of Political Centrists is hosting a East Ventura County Candidates' forum next week. Joe Howry from The Star will be running it.
Click on continue reading for details.
Many candidates will be there including school board candidates, Hannah-Beth Jackson, and Ferial Masry. It isn't surprising that Tony Strickland has said he will not attend the forum.
I would guess that he is avoiding the leaders of CAPC as they have been critical in the past. But is there any debates scheduled between the candidates? Are there any groups willing to put on a debate between the state senate candidates? If you know of a group Tony Strickland might speak in front of please post some suggestions.
I doubt there will be a forum between the candidates unless it is scheduled soon. Maybe a one on one forum between the two at Simi Valley city hall with Joe Howry moderating?

Forum proxies will be allowed but they may not be elected officials or candidates seeking other office.
More information can be found on the CAPC website, www.PoliticalCentrists.com or by calling 805-218-0058.

Why on earth would Tony go to an event with these people? So Katie can attack him? so Leslie can go off on him? Good for the stricklands and not attending. I am sure they'll have a great time tossing cookie cutter questions to hannah beth and ferial. I would love to see these two debate the stricklands on a TRUELY fair playing level, at a real debate
Then suggest a group and location. Get involved. Instead of just attacking other peoples' work why not make some suggestions you think both campaigns would accept?
It is my understanding that the Star will be developing the questions and asking them, not CAPC. Are the Stricklands worried about our esteemed editor Joe Howry asking them legitimate questions?
Hannah-Beth went to the forum that Camarillo Chamber sponsored in May, I believe. She did very well. I know she is planning on going to another the Ventura Chamber is setting up. I don't see her ducking debates or challenging questions.
"Go off on him"?
Sorry - definitely not my style.
CAPC has nothing to do with the questions asked of the candidates. The questions will be provided by the Editor of the Ventura County Star, and will not be revealed until the forum. We greatly appreciate the continuing support of the Star and Cal Lutheran in producing these forums so that the voters can become better informed.

Yes, I'm quite sure Jackson and Masry will be tossed lots of softballs by Mr. Howery. It is a known fact that the entire Star editorial board favors Jackson in this race.
The CAPC organization has very little credibility in most circles as well. They are skewed towards Democratic candidates, while claiming to be political centrists. I don't think so.
oh jeeze "By centrists hmm?"
Yet another poster not only afraid to identify themselves, but chameleon like bending to every issue with cutey screen names.
Let's be clear...you lack credibility, you lack the conviction of your own beliefs. You snipe from a covert position.
We should respect you? Respect your opinions? You don't even have the courage to stand up for them yourself. Why should anyone else take you seriously?
Let's put it this way...why won't boy/girl Strickland be there...probably because they are like you "By centrists hmm?".
They, you and the opinions you share don't wear well in the light of disclosure....that is why you hide.

Let's be clear...you lack credibility, I mean you lack the conviction of your own beliefs. You will not "Stand Tall". You snipe from a covert position.

What?? Our own Sarah Palin wannabee won't answer questions!!!
Q: What's the difference between Strickland & Palin?
A: You can see what's underneath Palin's makeup.
Boy/girl Strickland will not attend because Jose Angeles told them not to. He is too busy with his criminal charges to take time out to let the Phony Tony be visible in public. The Phony Tony puts more emphasis on screaming "Taxin' Jackson" at a fire truck in a parade, loaded with children and fire fighters, than in going before the public to stand up for his record in government service. To hell with the boy/girl Strickland. To the bread line or Wasco they shall go!
As has been explained to the Strickland camp by the Ventura County Star, the questions are developed by Joe Howry. CAPC does not see them at all. Only the senate candidate(s) will be asked any questions - the rest of the candidates (CVUSD) have five minutes to introduce themselves and their platforms.
CAPC runs a fair forum and candidates are grateful for the opportunity to speak to the voting public.
CAPC members will be asked to rank the candidates after they answer the questions poised to them (see CAPC website). We have Strickland supporters, Jackson supporters and none of the above on our advisory council and in our membership,
I have been very careful not to take sides in the senate race or even the assembly race. I haven't cut Joel Angeles any slack - he should be fired for his behavior.
I personally don't believe in lying, even by omission, to protect people.
Go Katie! Well said.
Dump Jose Angeles? Not a chance. He is the man behind the curtain. Add up Phony Tony's and Audra's IQ's and you don't get to Jose'. He has been the conductor of the Strickland machine since its inception. Phony Tony gets off on seeing Angeles knock down senior citizens and children. He enjoys seeing Jose shouting at fire fighters and children in a parade. Audra is excited watching Angeles calling Democrats traitors and terrorists.
Keep the fight Katie. Don't give in like you did when Gallegly substituted Totten at your last forum. Don't get pushed around by CalLutheran. Strickland is going down. He is thumbing his nose at your organization. Let him know that he is thumbing his nose at the voters as well.
To the bread line or Wasco with this Phony!
Want a perfect example of the Star's bias? Last week, Tony Strickland held a press conference at the Ventura County Government Center with almost every county-wide elected official in Ventura County present to announce their support. In the same week, Hannah-Beth Jackson opened a small satellite campaign office in Simi Valley. Guess which one the Star chose to print?
The bias is real.
In the Star's defense, they haven't reported all the goon calls and threats that elected Republicans have received if they don't support Tony Strickland. Maybe the press conference was done under duress by many of the participants? Maybe a Dem setting up shop in Rep territory is more newsworthy?
Seems like any credible candidate in a tough race would not want to thumb their nose at the newspaper that is co-sponsoring a candidate forum. It's an opportunity to get better known by the voters and it's also free advertising!
Boycotting an event makes you look scared and disses the voters that want to compare the candidates.
The Strickland's made there choice to get in bed with Dean Kunicki and he is bringing them down big time with his tobacco money.
Kunicki, Valenzano and Bates are paying lobbyists with school funds that turn around and make campaign contributions to the Strickland's. The lobbyists were paid $300,000 to lobby for vocational programs and by the end of their first year efforts the vocational programs were CUT by $300,000 and the funds were realigned and given to Los Angeles County because Ventura was lagging behind in developing programs.
That's right we LOST $600,000 in funds in one year for vocational programs. Thanks a lot Kunicki, Valenzano, Bates and Strickland's. Meanwhile the Strickland's received campaign contributions with our children's education dollars and taxpayer money from lobbyists that did not deliver.
Strickland was paid $20,000 to lobby for the Vista Real Charter schools while he was still in the Assembly. STrickland laundered his funds and turned around and made two campaign contributions totaling $15,000.oo to Valenzano and Kunicki. They became the swing vote to approve a charter school that students attend on average three hours a week of instruction where they go home and do independent study. There are no student support services, athletics or after school programs. This school serves at risk youth and they need support their API is one of the lowest in the state.
Our taxpayer dollars meant to educate children are being donated to Audra and Tony Strickland by Charter Resources.
Chris Valenzano also gets $$$ from Charter Resource Services.
That is a gross exaggeration, "Total bias," (Mongo) they held a press conference with a few Republican folks like Totten and Matheney. ABSOLUTELY NOT "almost every county-wide elected official in Ventura County."
Hannah-Beth has the endorsement of every single county supervisor except Foy. She has dozens of electeds from all over the county in her corner. Republicans and DTS, too. Although the Strickland folks said they had they had the entire T.O. City Council, they neglected to mention Claudia Bill de la Pena has endorsed Hannah-Beth.
Click on my name for the endorsement list.
The Strickland folks send out a press release every time their candidate sneezes. It may be the Star just gets too many of them.
I also think there is merit to the point put forth by an earlier blogger that Republican candidates are being threatened if they endorse Hannah-Beth.
I know one who has. He stood up to them and I really admire that. I don't like bullies.
Love Child, glad you brought up the tobacco money.
Strickland just got a whopping donation from UST Public Affairs (smokeless tobacco) directly to his account, which brings his direct contributions from tobacco to almost $90,000.
And look at the big donation from Exxon, too.
There is no way that Strickland is going to put himself in a situation over which he does not have total control.
He knows that without an approved from which he has memorized his lines and a director - of his choice - ready to feed him his lines lest he screw it up, he would wind up just another out of work actor.
(My apologies to all actors for the comparison.)

I just received confirmation that CVUSD candidate Julie Svitenko will be participating.
I haven't read all of these posts yet but a few quick thoughts.
1. Bias? I don't know about the print edition but I posted his endorsements almost every time he sends them in. I am a Democrat and I do support progressive causes. But I want to hear from all sides. I assume most of my readers do too.
2. Calling the Strickland duo Boy/Girl Strickland makes them sounds like action stars. The boy/girl Strickland tax fighting duo? Sounds like a funny youtube video they should make. Tony, if you use it I want some credit.
Just a thought.
