( This is a recent screen shot of the Lutness campaign advertising on my blog. Do you think online ads are effective in local campaigns yet? I have no control over the advertising on my blog, nor do I know the ad rates.)

I don't have much more to say about this campaign but click on continue reading for the latest update from Carole Lutness and her team.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

When we started this quest last February some people told me, "You can't win. Don't even bother. Just be a place holder to make sure we have a Democrat running." But even back then I sensed the country was changing, the people were waking up and they "got" that the last 28 years of Republican/Corporate rule was bringing us to a tipping point economically, socially, politically and environmentally. I could look ahead and see that if we continued on the self-destructive path of laissez fair, unbridled Capitalism our society and environment could collapse. I could not think of leaving this world to my dear granddaughter, Isabella, and to your children in the shape it was in without trying to do some small thing to make it better.

So I committed to make this a real race and a real race it has become. The support we have been given has been phenomenal from

*
our scores of volunteers - you have been the backbone of our campaign,
*
labor unions who have walked/phoned, donated printing, supported us financially and been all around guardian angels
*
Eric Bauman and the staff of the LA County Democratic Party for the training, consultation, technical assistance, support, mentoring and wonderful walk pieces they produced,
*
Jim Wisley from the California Democratic Party for his mentorship, support, encouragement AND for telling the folks up in Sacramento about our race and believing, like we did, that in this, the "Year of the Democrat," this seat can be won.
*
the wonderful elected officials and organizations who have endorsed and supported our campaign
*
the photographers, videographer and sound people who have given us "in-kind" donations for their services,
*
and everyone else who has believed in us and given so much to help us to work toward building a restorative/sustainable economy, social and economic justice and a democracy for all. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It is as though this campaign has been blessed by being under a "good sign." And while I do not know what is going to happen next Tuesday because I am not in charge of the outcome, I do know that we all have given it our 100% ALL.

We have not been showered with enormous amounts of money from Corporations as Smyth has (nor would we take it, if it were offered) and yet we have gotten exactly what we needed when we needed it. We did the footwork and bountiful help has appeared. Our core campaign staff, Lynne Plambeck, Campaign Director; Isaac Lieberman and Rosemary Jenkins, Field Directors have poured their lives into this campaign and we have worked together like a well-oiled machine - "The Little Engine that Could." So, we all wait for November 4 to see what is going to happen in this little David and Goliath battle. There is still a lot to do - walking, phoning, helping with the Garamendi event, coming to the Rallies this weekend, watching polls on election day, etc. We still need help to take us over the top, but please know how grateful I am to all of you who have helped us so much with your time, money and support.

P.S. Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa - Many of you received multiple copies of last week's e-mail blast. I am so sorry. There was some problem with the server and I watched helplessly as the blast reproduced itself. I am so sorry. We were powerless to do anything about it but it has been fixed. Ours is a grassroots campaign. We have run it with chicken wire and masking tape. We don't have a sophisticated way of managing our e-mail lists. I know this may have be a source of annoyance to some people who somehow got on the list by chance. We ask your indulgence and ask that you put us on your Spam block if you don't want to receive any more e-mail blasts from us. We will only be sending out one more. (Plus an invitation to our Campaign Celebration Party!)

When you write us to be removed from the list we try our hardest to find you but sometimes you still are on it despite our best efforts.

Help us buy TV and Radio air time

This past week a wonderful TV filmmaker, Ed Dadulak, filmed two incredible TV 30 second ads for us at a greatly reduced rate because he believes in our cause and now we are beginning to receive money to put these ads on the air. Please consider helping us buy air time for these ads (see the ads on http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1078541469/bclid1111450743/bctid1879686525). The more exposure we have the better our chances of winning. Here is how you can help.....

*
For $25 you can help us buy a 30-second ad on the 5-9am Fox News time slot in Santa Clarita
*
For $38 you can help us buy a 30-second ad on the 8pm-12am (prime time) MSNBC time slot in San Fernando Valley
*
For $45 you can help us buy a 30-second ad on the 8pm-12am Fox News time slot in Simi Valley
*
For $64 you can help us buy a 30-second ad on the 8pm-12am MSNBC time slot in San Fernando Valley and up the 210 to La Crescenta
*
For $93 you can help us buy a 30- second ad on the 8pm-12am CNN time slot in San Fernando Valley

We also want to buy radio ad time on selected stations and are asking for help for this as well. Go to ACT BLUE (Link is below) to make your donation or call us and tell us how you can help.

Lt.Gov. John Garamendi Fundraiser - The Big Day Approaches!

Don't forget, the big day we've been waiting for is almost here. The Lt. Gov. will be visiting SCV this Thursday, October 30. We just heard today that The Honorable Judy Chu, Chair of the Board of Equalization will be coming as well. They both will be visiting the SCV Dem HQ before the Fundraising Event. They will be at the SCV Democratic HQ 23119 Lyons Ave at 4:30pm to meet the volunteers who are doing so much to make this the best campaign Dems have ever run out here. Then we'll dash off to the Event (see attached) from 5-7pm at the Valencia Hills Club House, 24060 Oakvale Drive , Valencia , 91355. We still need volunteers for this big event. REMEMBER - Volunteers for the event will receive one free ticket. Anyone who volunteers at SCV/DHQ or DP/SFV HQ to help get all of our candidates in the 38th AD elected will get a reduced price ticket. If you are planning to come or volunteer please notify Rosemary Jenkins, our Field Director, as space is limited and we are almost sold out. (Rosemary Jenkins - 818--667-3280 or WRFJenkins@aol.com)

* We need people to act as host/hostesses
* We need people to set up, decorate and clean up
* Please let us know how you can help.

Not only are we having some really big "names" in the Democratic Party at this event but we will also be entertained by several delightful musical acts and will have some great silent auction items. All proceeds are going to our GOTV efforts.

GOTV This Weekend

Our GOTV efforts will continue until the very end. We need all the walkers/phoners we can get to come out this Saturday and Sunday.

* We will be walking/phoning with the DP/SFV Democratic HQ crew this Saturday, November 1 beginning from 9 am to 1pm to walk/phone in the 38th AD in the SFV area (The 38th encompasses above Devonshire out to Simi Valley , out the 210 to La Cresenta, the edge of Glendale , the edge of Burbank- see zip codes below ). Walk for as long as you can and phone bank as well. DP/SFV HQ is located at 14529 Archwood Van Nuys, CA 91405 (818-995-DEMS). ( Van Nuys Blvd to Vanowen. Turn at the 99Cent Store and then turn immediately LEFT into the parking lot. DP/SFV HQ is 1/2block on the RIGHT.) I will be on hand to walk and phone
* Join the SCV Democratic HQ's on Sunday, November 2 from 10:00am to 1:30pm. They will be dropping literature for all our great Democratic candidates. Walk for as long as you can. This will be a literature drop, not a precinct walk. SCV Dem HQ is located at - 23119 Lyons Ave, Newhall (661-877-2775) (off the 5 at Lyons, turn RIGHT, HQ is about 1+ miles on your LEFT) I will be on hand to help drop literature.
* On Election Day please contact DP/SFV and SCV Democratic HQ for opportunities to help GOTV. They will also be phone banking and walking on Monday, November 3. Make sure you tell them you want to call/walk for me and all the great Democrats in our district.

Our Union brothers and sisters are expected to join the GOTV efforts. If you have questions, call the HQ's (listed above) Hope you can join us. The Repubs have the money, we have the feet and ours is a righteous campaign (see zip codes below to help recruit your members in our District)

Big Rallies Oct. 31,Nov. 1 & 2

Ya'all come on out for our big Democratic rallies taking place in the 38th AD this weekend. Bring all your Obama, Lutness, Hannah Beth Jackson signs or make signs to show folks driving by that the DEMOCRATS ARE HERE and we ROCK!! Here is the schedule

*
Friday, October 31 on the corner of Balboa and Rinaldi from 5pm to dark
*
Saturday, Nov 1 at Valencia Blvd & McBean on the Corner Bakery corner from 2-4pm (remember - don't park in the Mall parking lot)
*
Sunday, Nov 2 at the Whites Canyon and Soledad Canyon Road corner from 2-4pm

We need everyone out there. A real show of force!

We've got them on the run!

Cameron and the Repubs were out in "full force" (I use that term loosely) Sunday at Newhall Park (see www.scvtalk.com). Looks like they were pretty much talking to themselves. Buck and Strickland were there. The Repubs are in retreat as well they should be. Did you read where Allen Greeenspan told the House Oversight Committee in effect that the Fundamentalist Capitalist Church of Milton Freeman that has espoused no government oversight and no safety net - the "let the market" decide philosophy - has once again proven disastrous. I'm sure you're hearing that McCain and other Republicans now say we need to return to a Keynesian economic system that restrains unbridled Capitalism and gives a safety net to those who are most at risk during the inevitable boom or bust cycles of our system. How many times do we have to repeat this cycle where the Democrats have to ride in on their white horses to save us from the greed, plunder and excesses brought about by the Republican's dog-eat-dog Capitalism? We have a big job ahead to restore our economy and build a secure future for everyone. Thank goodness greed is no longer considered a family value and our vision now extends beyond the next quarterly report.

Please support our Campaign

We need money for our final assault. Please consider sending Lutness4Assembly a donation. I cannot get elected without money. We are focusing on raising money for our TV/Radio ads and newspaper ads. I take no money from Corporate sources which mean I must ask my friends and supporters for help. So, please consider sending a donation to our campaign Lutness4Assembly P.O.Box221251 Newhall, CA 91322-1251 or make a donation on line at Act Blue a SAFE website dedicated to supporting Democratic candidates.

Hello Brian,
Now that the campaigning is nearing its end, I'll take the time to answer you. Although we don't have definitive numbers for the Hannah Beth Jackson and Tony Strickland Campaigns yet, and I'll admit the see sawing on who is up this day and who is down that day because of the need to finish all of the provisional and absentee ballots, this is causing expected but more stress than I care to admit to ... Yes, having campaign information on highly read websites does what it is suppose to do, put the idea in your head that this person is someone to pay attention to, hopefully it will motivate you to visit the site and learn more about the candidate, discuss with your friends and family members, and the ultimate goal is to get you to work on the campaign and vote for them.

Trust me, with the small budgets and creativity candidates' campaign operatives use that are needed to get the attention of the voters when so many other candidates and issues of their daily existence also are beckoning for their attention, we don't spend money where we believe it is not effective.

Political campaigning on the other hand give a new meaning to "guerilla marketing". (SMILE).
