Question:
Which of the Democratic candidate from the primaries does Hannah-Beth Jackson's campaign seem similar in their strategies and tactics?
Which of the Republican candidates from the primaries does Tony Strickland's campaign seem similar in their strategies and tactics?

This is not an attack piece. It is true - Strickland's company is completely bogus.
I think she's the one who's delusional if she thinks she's going to win this election.
NA,
While attack might be a harsh word for it the title of the mailer is "delusional"!
An attack mailer can simultaneously be factual and an attack. They can tell the whole stay and be an attack mailer.
I liked this ad. It is funny.
This is a very good mailing piece by Jackson. Entertaining and right on message. Kudos!
Now, if you want to understand what REAL negative campaigning is about, ask Thomas Jefferson. You remember him right? One of the founding fathers of our glorious country? Beloved by all patriots for a little ditty he composed entitled The Declaration of Independence?
"In 1800 when, during the Thomas Jefferson-John Adams presidential race, the Connecticut Courant wrote that if Jefferson won, "murder, robbery, rape, adultery and incest will be openly taught and practiced, the air will be rent with the cries of the distressed, the soil will be soaked with blood, and the nation black with crimes."
New Englanders, Advertising Age noted in an editorial last April praising negative campaign ads, "reportedly hid their Bibles for fear that the infidel president would declare them illegal."
Fast forward to 1828, "when supporters of presidential candidate and incumbent John Quincy Adams called opponent Andrew Jackson a cannibal and a murderer. The previously married Mrs. Jackson got off easy; Adams's supporters merely accused her of being a whore."
-(Sharon Begley | NEWSWEEK Published Oct 11, 2008)
Those are attack politics. Negative campaigning simply points out the contrast in political philosophy, or in this case, the truth about Strickland's imaginary company by satirizing it.
I think it's the same as every other piece of bad propoganda she throws out. 23 out of the 25 mailers she has sent have been negative. She has no new ideas, only old attacks where she tries to smear a candidate who has a proven record as being a green conservative.
Let's hear some new ideas from this woman. Let's hear where she stands on the issues. Drilling and the energy crisis? Spending in California? Education? Other than being a divorce lawyer, Hannah has done nothing for our state. Put up or shut up.
Proven record as a green conservative???? HAAAAA
Let's see... He's voted no on absolutely everything he could to promote alternative energy and energy savings. Then he gets tapped to be a lobbyist for this phony GreenWave outfit right before he files paper to run for State Senate.
You folks lie so badly now. You would think with all this practice you would get better.
HBJ has sent out numerous pieces detailing her education record and policy, economic policy, values, environmental policies, consumer policies. She was a prosecutor and and educator and founded a battered women's shelter in addition to being a first-rate legislator and an attorney who fought for women's and children's issues.
Well, Hannah-Beth Jackson's silence on the economy and what she would do to try and help get it back on track is more evidence of her lack of vision and failure to put this as her top priority, if elected. Voters will see this and support Tony Strickland.
Strickland's claims regarding GreenWave is an insult to all legitimate business owners. It is not a real company but it is a political tool. It makes me mad everytime he invokes the name.
Her silence? I received a huge detailed mailer from her on her economic plan with real ideas, not a phony wave energy business.
Oh, was that the one that had a brown cover on it that talked about her ideas of how to skirt Prop. 13 among other tax increase schemes? And you call that an economic plan? Bwah-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah!!!
How much money and how many businesses & jobs fled CA after Strickland's dumb, self-serving PR move to sue the Gov and keep our electric rates climbing through the roof. Instead of paying $70MWH, which would have been the LOWEST in the country we're paying the HIGHEST and chasing jobs & revenues out of state.
I was going to vote for Strickland until I got this mailer, I just voted for Hannah-Beth Jackson on my absentee ballot, time to get rid of the Strickland's, they are too much like Bush!
It was a red mailer with multiple pages and a good discussion of the issues we face.
Not a piece pumping up Strickland's one-note phony plan and a not-ever-going-to-be-approved wave energy business.
We know Phony-Tony deserves the name. Will enough voters know it? Every blogger here should send in letters-to-the-editor and tell their neigbors. The Phony has to go down!
You better hurry, all you fans of big government and higher taxes. All the letters that are appearing in the Star so far are praising Tony and making mince meat out of "The Taxin' One."
I wouldn't get too thrilled, Jackson's Silence, since it also appears that The Star loaded most of the pro-Jackson/anti-Strickland letters up until most of the absentee ballots were mailed.
Good buddy and mentor of Phony Tony Strickland Ted Stevens has been convicted on all 7 counts. I wonder if Phony Tony will lend Stevens his soap on a rope?
GS, that sure doesn't surprise me given the fact that the Star editorial board worships the ground Jackson walks on. Typical liberal media bunch, that group.
David,
Jackson has a record of environmentalism and support for alternative energy. Strickland has a record of ineffectiveness.
Strickland, ever the shameless opportunist, has created this "alternative energy company" like an out of work TV writer creates a sit-com pilot - completely fabricated in his manipulatively creative mind, in hopes someone will buy his drivel.
But Jimmy Stewart he is not. And his imaginary company is no Harvey the Rabbit. And while Don Quixote truly believed in the noble causes he fought for, Strickland is much more like a male version of the Aldonza character - a brazen gigolo for hire, wrapped in illusions of pride and honor.
He lacks self-worth, but his Quixotic followers keep singing his praises. Dream on.
Sorry, but I think both Stricklands will win. I held my nose and voted for Hannah-Beth because I was a huge Dantona supporter, but I don't think her campaign has been nearly as effective as Strickland's. I think Dantona could have beaten him easily in this district. Hannah-Beth just doesn't know how to drum up support where she needs it. Her campaign lacked focus.
I'm not in Audra's district, but I don't think Masry has a prayer, despite some too little, too late efforts by the State Democratic Party.
Did anyone see Tony's latest mailer on the Taxin' One's support of AB 489 when she was in the Assembly in 2001. This was a very weakened version of a predatory lending bill which Jackson caved into under pressure from the banking industry.
A lobbyist for Household International, Inc., a top sub-prime lender, rated the final version as a "B-" impact on lending institutions, whereas, before Jackson got her mitts on it, it was rated a "D" impact.
Good going, Hannah-Beth. Your hypocrisy is showing big-time.
According to Timm Herdt's blog, the 19th Senate District is now Democrat. We have lost our 25,000 Republican advantage that we had 4 years ago.
Wonder what this means to the race?
It means Strickland wins, Katie, despite your best efforts to run down the Republican Party in Ventura County.
Oh Mango - when will you learn? I am a Republican. The only people running down the Republican party are people that think they are above the law and those that try to justify a lack of integrity. Take Ted Stevens for example in Alaska......
Mongo,
Keep fooling yourself. I have been phone banking Republican's and DTS for HBJ and Republicans are VERY PERSUADABLE to vote for HBJ, some have told me they just haven't gotten around to changing their party status but consider themselves Independents. I am a well known person in my community and I can usually find at least one mutual acquaintance or common cause with almost everyone I call. It seems that male senior citizens are the most persuadable. Now that Dems outnumber Reps the scales tilt even better in HBJ's favor. Republican's, Democrats and Independents will vote for HBJ and local elected officials that endorsed TS out of fear will be voting for HBJ. I don't see any TS signs and the Rep. elected's that endorsed him have not done anything to promote TS other than lending their name out of fear.
I am voting for Cameron Smyth, Elton Gallegly and have been a big supporter and volunteer for Keith Richmam. Strickland buried Richman and Richman supporters have not forgotten...it's payback time.
Cathie Wright, Linda Parks, Judy Mikels, John Lane, Bob Larkin and Jere Robings are just a few of the prominent Reps to support HBJ.
Clean up you party and embrace the moderates. Many of us who have left the Republican party and are now DTS do not identify with the Dems but we will not support the hijacked Strickland Candidate controlled VCRCC.
