Be honest. In all of your years of politics have you ever stolen a few signs? Have you done it recently? Do you feel bad about it or would you do it again?
Include as many details as you want.
I mention this because my No on 8 sign was stolen last night. Then tonight when I was at my Mom's house her No on 8 sign AND her neighbor's were stolen. They thieves did leave their Barack Obama signs though! We all had replacements so it wasn't a big deal. I know both sides do it, but I want to hear more.
So, how long has it been since your last confession?

From Camarillo. My No on 8 sign was stolen on Halloween. I saw (in the dark and from a distance of 25 feet) a mid-size white SUV stop in front of my house. I only heard voices rather than saw, a group of young men as they clattered the Obama/Biden sign against the No on 8 sign as they grabbed them, laughed, and sped off down the street. Not coincidentally, that same night hundreds of Yes on 8 signs appeared absolutely everywhere in Camarillo. No wonder, though, since the Mormon church is bankrolling this effort and enlisting their millions of faithful to spread the word, particularly their youth. Is it just me, or does anyone else in town feel a bit....strangled? It is not enough to blanket our community with their falsely sunny branding of a yet another ballot proposition that is the love child of yet another ideologue billionaire, but they have to also trample my right to express otherwise.
When are Americans going to wake up and stop letting these manipulators stir up spurious "issues?" When has anyone had their religious or civil rights violated by the simple fact of a gay or lesbian marriage? Never. But each and every day homosexual Americans face that very thing from the system that their tax dollars underwrite just as well as those of the right wing.
Of all groups, Mormons should appreciate broader definitions of marriage; they own a history of polygamy that continues in fervent pockets today. Our founding fathers wisely erected a wall between church and state. The Mormon church should lose its tax-exempt status if it's going to enter the political fray. Otherwise, stay the heck out!
I'm sorry that your sign was stolen, but you don't have any proof that it was done by members of the Mormon Church. I realize that people on both sides of this issue are passionate about their position, but I think it is wrong to turn this into a generalized attack against a particular religious group. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, including Mormons. In the end it will be the voters who will decide the outcome. In the meantime, just get a new sign and cast your ballot on Tuesday.
I'm not attacking. I am merely noting that the Mormon church has put a great deal of time, energy, and money into the Yes on 8 campaign. I still can't fathom why they - or anyone else, for that matter - should care one way or another whether or not gay people marry. The argument that it infringes on the church's rights is nonsense and holds no truth.
Learned a lesson I thought I'd pass on. I jumped to the conclusion it was opponents to Prop 8 that were stealing our Yes signs. Then after talking to a neighbor whose boys, let's say, are not given the best example of respecting other people's property, our Yes sign was anonymously returned, albeit in a battered condition. And so far our new Yes sign has not been taken. I feel badly I assumed opponents to Prop 8 were responsible.
As to any youths who are members of the LDS (Mormon) Church and are responsible for stealing No On 8 signs, please know they are NOT following the teachings of the church. If you catch them, call the police.
My gosh. What can't we respect one another's beliefs?
