Odds And Ends

1. There was a strange story in The Star about a local man that is writing about a purported relic of Jesus. Click here to read the story. I am impressed that Professor Fecht of Moorpark College has been so influential on so many lives. I used to ditch a math class to catch a lecture of his when my grade could afford it.

2. Andrew Sullivan is a married gay Catholic conservative (so much for stereotypes!) who writes one of the most popular political blogs in the world. Recently he had this picture up which points out that most of us don't think anymore being gay is a choice. Do you think it is a choice? The debate has shifted in the last few years with less and less people holding that opinion.

3. My comments policy has remained the same for the last few years. If you see a comment that goes over the top send me an email to have it removed. I delete trash comments regularly it isn't a big deal. I have told almost all of the candidates and/or campaigns this same information in person. I don't post who asked the comments to be removed. I do this to encourage a somewhat civil discussion and to keep things that are grossly unfair because they go after family members, give away personal information, or use detestable language.

You don't need to register or use your full name to comment. But if you don't use your real name, most of us will take that into consideration when we read your comments.

The election season is over and I expect the intensity that some people use when writing their comments will decrease.

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog.

To answer your question - no, I don't think being gay is a choice. It's like being left-handed (which I am). One is born that way.

I think the whole gay marriage thing is like the whole abortion issue - a way to get a group of people galvanized one way or another. The pro-Life people always support candidates that proclaim themselves pro-Life - but they should be asking themselves what are these candidate doing about it. Most are doing nothing - no legislation, no participating in rallies, nothing. Same with those that proclaim they support gay marriage. It is a mockery and a manipulation.

Given the demographics of the state, I never, ever thought Prop 8 would pass. Prop 4 (parental notification) should have passed but no politician got behind it. I will never understand why my minor daughter was forbidden to get an aspirin at school without my permission but she could have gotten an abortion and if she went to public school - she would have very likely been helped.

I am convinced that being gay is NOT a lifestyle choice. I have a number of gay friends, and several of them, if given a choice, would choose to be straight.

I have some non-scientific, anecdotal evidence to back this up. For years now, whenever discussions of gay vs straight have come up, I have asked those participating in the conversation to answer this question:

-- In the first erotic dream that you ever had (and we all remember that first dream, whether we were eight years old or fourteen at the time) was the object of your desire the same sex or the opposite sex?

Without exception, responses have been consistent with the individual's eventual orientation. Straight individuals remembered that the dream involved someone of the opposite gender, and gay individuals' dreams were of same gender.

Not at all scientific, I know, but certainly interesting.
