Ted Stevens is an embarrasment to Republicans everywhere. I hope he gets trounced. I can't believe he went through with the election instead of giving another Republican candidate a chance - what a self-centered you-know-what.

ANCHORAGE — The Democratic challenger to embattled Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens held a 814-vote lead Thursday as counting continued in one of three outstanding U.S. Senate races.
Why didn't Stevens bow out and let another Republican run? WHAT AN IDIOT!!!
Stevens is a disgrace, and if he cared about his party or his constituents more than himself he would have stepped aside and let someone else run in his place. Now he risks giving the dems a super majority because of his arrogance. I'm just shocked that so many people would still vote for this clown AFTER he was convicted of taking bribes. Then again, voters also re-elected William Jefferson who had piles of money in his freezer, so what do I know?
It is a failure of our system that these two have continued to hold elected office.
Both candidates obviously lacked any kind of moral compass. I put the blame on the candidates first and the stupid voters second. Then the system.

Stevens falls further back in Alaska Senate count

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Republican Sen. Ted Stevens, a stalwart of Alaska politics who was convicted of felony charges last month, fell further behind his Democratic rival Friday, and most remaining ballots come from parts of the state that have favored the challenger.
Mark Begich, the two-term mayor of Anchorage, increased his lead from 814 votes to 1,022 as state election workers counted 17,100 ballots. Begich had 47.4 percent of the vote to Stevens' 47.0 percent.
"With the gap widening slightly in our favor today, I feel even more optimistic that when all the ballots are counted next week, we'll see Alaskans came out to vote for new leadership in Washington, D.C.," Begich said in a statement.
He has officially lost! YEAH!!!!!!!!! He should be tarred and feathered for what he did.
At least he kept it in his pants...
