The Santa Barbara Republican Party is throwing a country western themed party to raise money for their Young Republicans.

Guests include actor Christopher Mitchum, the Steve Woods Country Western Band, and newly elected State Senator Tony Strickland.

There is going to be drinks, music and an auction for a "beaver Ronald Reagan Stetson".

The best line:

"Our Saddle Up Shindig is pure Reagan Country and was inspired by the late President's optimistic, non elitist, pro America style," commented Heather Bryden, Event Co-Chair. "Our country could use more of that."

Which president didn't have a pro-america style? Which president had an elitist style? That line seems straight out of a Sarah Palin speech.

ACTOR CHRISTOPHER MITCHUM WILL HOST AS HONORARY CHAIRMAN

Next Tuesday, approximately 300 Republican supporters will "saddle up" and head over to the barn at Santa Barbara 's Carriage & Western Art Museum for a roll-out-the-barrel shindig to celebrate the victory of Senator Tony Strickland. Hollywood actor, writer, and producer Christopher Mitchum will host as the event's Honorary Chairman.

"It's a fun-raiser," says Mr. Mitchum, who has contributed a new beaver Ronald Reagan Stetson to auction at the event. "We're all cowboying up, and there will be plenty of boot slappin', two-steppin' and surprises for a wholesome good time."

Topping the political VIP list is California 's newest State Senator, Tony Strickland, whose recent election made headlines across the state. He will be making a special trip from Sacramento to thank his supporters and mingle with the crowd.

Sponsored by a coalition of local Republican groups and Reagan fans such as Honorary Vice Chair [former El Presidente] Roger Perry, the hoedown will feature "gunslinger grub," a no-host Blues Buster Saloon and Steve Woods Country Western Band for guests to dance the night away.

"Our Saddle Up Shindig is pure Reagan Country and was inspired by the late President's optimistic, non elitist, pro America style," commented Heather Bryden, Event Co-Chair. "Our country could use more of that."

The celebration runs from 6 to 9 pm, and tickets are $20; proceeds will benefit local young Republicans. Reservations are required. For information, call 569-1136.

If I was a Santa Barbara Republican right now, I'd be real nervous about this. The San Berdadino CC member and Tax Accessor was just arrested on meth charges, the San Bernadino Young Republicans got over $100K from a dubious development outfit and the San Bernadino Central Committee is heavily funded by the guy who was just arrested and a property manager. My gut says something isn't right.

Katie,

What does that have to do with Santa Barbara? Some other person that happens to support Young Republicans in another region of the state was arrested?

Tickets are only $20, which is far from the big checks that interest groups give.

Brian, I looked at the funding patterns of the various Young Republican groups and it isn't pretty. In many instances, these groups are a place to park money.

Bill Postmus (the San Bernadino guy)has connections to Ventura County and to Sacramento. If I was Steve Poizner, etc. I would be making statements of separation.

Click on my name to read a truly sordid article on Postmus. Too bad he thought being gay was such an awful stigma he had to go to such lengths to hide it.

Something like ten places were searched - the fallout will continue. In the meantime, I bet noone will claim knowing him. But if you look at the money trail, alot of people got significant donations from him and made donations to him.

Like I said, if I was a Santa Barbara Republican, I'd be real nervous. Something doesn't smell right.

Katie, what are his ties to Ventura County? Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see any reference to it in the story.

No need for Santa Barbara County Republicans to be nervous. I'm planning on being there, with bells (er, spurs) on...

Because Tony Strickland was mentioned in the police report and he isn't answering questions from the media I assume this is going to make his critics even more suspicious. You should ask him about it and post a video.

A search warrant obtained by The Sun shows that investigators were looking to seize any documents related to the company Triland Inc. and a number of political action committees - the Inland Empire Political Action Committee, Committee to Elect Bill Postmus and Conservatives for a Republican Majority Political Action Committee.

Triland is the company listed on deeds for properties in the High Desert that are owned by Postmus and his business partner, developer Dino Defazio.

According to the warrant, a copy of an e-mail sent by Adam Aleman on June 28 referencing "I.E. checks" was seized.

The e-mail mentioned Supervisors Brad Mitzelfelt and Neil Derry, former state senate candidate Tony Strickland and former Assembly candidate Bob Smith. A card to Postmus from assembly candidate Nathan Fletcher was also seized, as was a letter from former Republican nominee for state Attorney General Charles Poochigian.

Assemblyman Anthony Adams, once Postmus' political ally and early supporter, said he was shocked by the assessor's arrest.

"I pray that these allegations are found to be unwarranted," he said, "but my heart goes out to Bill's family and friends as they are going to need to intervene and surround him with the support he needs. I would hope that Bill would step aside so that the county is not harmed ... until this matter is resolved. "

Postmus has announced he will not run for re-election. In a recent speech to the Board of Supervisors, Postmus

Meanwhile back at the ranch.... The district attorney is looking for the next D.A. investigator he wants to make a judge.

(The last D.A. investigator who investigated Tony Strickland and found him innocent became a judge).

Sounds like a few posters here have been spending too much time on "Fantasy Island." They'd love to see Strickland somehow linked to Bill Postmus and his problems (way out in Rancho Cucamonga), but, in fact, there is no such connection. Probably just Hannah-Beth loyalists still desperately looking for an incriminating story that doesn't exist. Election's over folks, time to move on now...

Here are links between Tony Strickland and Bill Postmus:
